Ehh I think that call on Niedermayer was pretty lame. How do you get a charging for being pushed into a goalie? I say this from a standpoint of losing my 5 or under in the last 5 minutes... not as a knock to the Kings.

I thought the officiating in the 3rd was brutal... I actually couldn't complain for the first 2 periods and was quite excited about it, then BOOM.

Alex Ovechkin is some kind of amazing. Watch the highlights of his first (just in case, since it's only 1-1 right now) goal against Montreal tonight when you can.

Goal of the year.

My Cap fan friends tell me that Ovechkin himself prefers this one:

the devils won their 45th overtime game of the year... that's just an estimate though. kevin weekes - yes, kevin weekes - made about 40 saves in the win. like i said, it doesn't matter that brodeur is coming back.

Holy crap... the media in frenchy canadia is reporting the Kostitsyn brothers and Hamirlik are involved in Montreal organized crime... this is career ending (season ending) folks.

I have nothing against Nashville, but I really hope they end up moving to a Canadian or northern U.S. city.

I haven't really thought that much about it, but is there really not enough support in a place like Portland or Seattle for a franchise? It seems from afar that Seattle is a Seahawks town and isn't otherwise very passionate about it's sports, and I don't know much about Portland.

What cities should get a team from among Bettman's failed sun belt experiment?

winnipeg, quebec city and hamilton could each support a franchise. montreal and toronto could probably support a second franchise although there is no way in hell that will happen. seattle would probably be a really good choice as well, especially since they don't have the nba anymore (until memphis relocates there).

european expansion into a place like oslo, helsinki or stockholm would also be awesome, but probably isn't realistic given the travel issues.

I don't know about the European option. It's interesting, but yeah, definitely not realistic.

I agree with all three of those Canadian cities. Actually, if the league took Nashville, Phoenix, Tampa and Miami and put them in those three cities and Hartford, I would be a happy human.

As much as I'd love to see more Canadian teams, I really doubt they'd be able to last financially very long. If the league isn't working out in the south, just contract.

there's no question that the nhl would work in a place like hamilton or mississauga. question is whether the maple leafs (and to a lesser extent the sabres) would allow it to happen.

There's a lot of question as to whether it would work in Hamilton.

You are talking about a metropolitan area roughly the same size as Springfield, Missouri or Akron, Ohio. And it'd be attempting to draw from a fan base that is already largely loyal to another team.

I agree that there are eithers with the fans being loyal to existing teams, but the comparison to Springfield, MO is inaccurate. Springfield's MSA is about 370,000. Hamilton's is 690,000. Akron is 694,000.

But even with the similar population numbers between Akron and Hamilton, there is no much more interest up there.

D'oh, I meant Springfield, Massachusetts.

I get that there's a ton of interest, but there's just not enough people to sell too. You'd need roughly 3% of the area's population to show up to every home game.
