there's a reason that everyone hates the red wings and generally it comes down to jealousy. personally i admire them, they kept winning after scotty bowman moved on and they kept a good system in place to stay the best franchise despite the restraints of a salary cap. their international drafting is absurdly good.

When I was a kid and started watching hockey I didn't have a solid favorite team. I had three favorite teams the Blackhawks, Blues and Sabres. I also hated the Red Wings (mostly because I like the Blackhawks and the Blues.) My three favorite players were Chris Chelios Brett Hull, and Dominik Hasek. I hate the fact that all three ended up on the Wings and all three won a cup with them. Because of this and the fact that my favorite team got narrowed down to the Blackhawks I hate the Red Wings more than any team in sports.

I understand why the NHL does the marketing that they do. It is based on the how the NBA markets its game. More player driven than team driven. Sadly teams like San Jose and Boston who dont have a big out front marketable player get way under appreciated. I know I gripped a couple of times this year that the Wings and Sharks game wasnt nationally covered anywhere, yet this game today which isnt nearly as important because it is not a conference game is hyped as the a huge game.

The funny thing is that Pittsburgh isnt a very good team, nor were they that good last year. They would have not gotten out of the first round in the West last year.

The NHL is terrible at marketing. Sean Avery maybe an idiot, but he was totally right when talking about how the NHL does a terrible job of marketing. Any league that would have marketing campaigns based on a guy like Jarome Iginla is a total joke.

NHL needs Sean Avery, I can't wait til he comes back... he's out of his anger management program now and can play this year.

Not last year...they were quite a bit better last year. I think it has really evened out this year.

Boston/San Jose on versus tonight. Glad the see the NHL/Versus isnt completely incompetent.

Ya, seriously... finally I didn't have to see Cindy Crosbaby diving all over the [expletive] ice like it was a slip and slide.

1ST PERIOD

  • Savard looked amazing on that play for the first goal.
  • San Jose did a nice job fundamentally getting the puck to the net, although the goal was utter and complete luck.
  • Bitz looked great on the boards all period.
  • Lucic is a monster, what a read on the rebound.
  • Boston dominates the 1st, although San Jose's PK looked pretty good.

2ND PERIOD

  • Bogus penalty on Setoguchi.
  • Sharks PK looked really sharp early on.
  • Finally some pushing and shoving after the whistle around 3:49.
  • Bettman is a ****tard.
  • Murray layed a sick hit on Kobasew.
  • NABOKOV! Wow... what a great double pad stack and perfect anticipation.
  • Both goalies were MVP of the 2nd.

3RD PERIOD

  • Marleu with the incredible read to pot that one.
  • Michalek rips a beauty.
  • Thornton has the cards in his favor... he starts the play with a pass from the SHARKS blue line and ends up lighting the lamp.
  • 3rd period ALL Sharks... looks like the Bruins were just demoralized.

FINAL THOUGHTS

  • I'd say it lived up to the hype. Was physical and both teams played well, the Sharks just took the game over after the 1st. Was a great hockey game to watch as a neutral party!

Any other comments? I just caught up on my TiVo and made some notes along the way.

Mike Green just tied the record for goals in consecutive games by a defenseman with his seventh.

Not to brag or anything, but like a year and a few months ago I told everyone how much he was improving. IN FACT, I, internet sleuth, decided to see when I said it. November 30th, 2007. He only had 9 points at the time.

I'm like the meph of hockey, except I don't suck.

you should sig it. he probably has all of us on ignore anyway.

You mean you don't know the sabremetrics of hockey? IGNORED.

well you see martin brodeur is clearly a bad goalie because i say so and will not expound on this point, exposing myself to lots of criticism because i prefer to make vague, outlandish statements rather than thought out posts that back up my point.

Could play Wednesday against Manitoba.

Which teams minor league team is that?
