I had it on the computer but was playing nhl 09 and not paying much attention. What happened?

Empty net for the Flames... as Kiprusoff was coming off the ice the Avs stole the puck and Kip started back towards the goal but quickly turned around and it was BORDERLINE too many men... but I would take that and just be irritated about it. THEN they are about to drop the puck and Fraser comes over and points at another player on the bench of the Flames (He was out of ear shot so it couldn't have been a bench penalty) and he made it a 5 v 3. With a freaking minute to go, no one even knows what the penalty is and the announcers were flabbergasted, as was I.

Anyways... next play after the whistle an Avs player cross-checks Phaneuf in the face while Fraser is 10 feet from it and he doesn't call [expletive].

Anyways, the Flames had 3 sick slapshots in the last 25 seconds... but man that was just terrible.

EDIT: Haha it was an Unsportsmanlike Conduct on Nystrom who was sitting there calmly... wow.

NHL reffing, subjectivity at its best.

The 5 minute boarding against Lilja last night was bad. That is an example of my biggest problem with NHL officiating. It is probably just a 2 minute minor if the Backes doesnt just lay there for 3 minutes. He also came out and played on the PP. Game misconduct is mandatory with a 5 minute major boarding penalty.

Its like high sticking is a double minor if you cause blood. That is just stupid. I could cause a concussion with my stick, but that is just a minor, if the other guy is bleeding, double it.

NUN, have you seen any of Leino yet? with what i've seen of him i've been impressed. he's great at controlling the puck, and would probably develop into a top-6 forward on a normal team. but as loaded as the Wings are, who knows where they'll fit him in ultimately.

the rich get richer.

2 points in 2 games.

I have watched the last couple Wings games, and I really only remember the goal he scored... he can move the puck though. Also, he's a Finn so I have a bias.

He is on the first line in Holmstroms absense. Personally from what I have seen so far, he doesnt play well with Hossa and Datsyuk. My guess is this is more a function that Datsyuk is a different type of player than almost anyone in hockey and probably takes some time to get adjusted to.

He didnt play last night in the 3rd period!? I didnt see anything that deserved him to sit. The whole team looked like pooh again, hard to single out Leino. My guess though is he will be the replacement for Hossa or Franzen, whichever one the Wings dont sign.

Another classy display by Jovanovski and Gretzky and the Coyotes near the end of the Wings game. I hope Jovo gets suspended for that...

I understand why they were angry. Not the best of calls with 43 secs left. Of course if the Coyotes get the puck on goal and score cause the d-man has extra time because of that holding, I am sure the Wings wouldnt be very happy either.

I have to say this. Chris Chelios is very bad at NHL hockey at this point in his life.

In his defense he is 105 years old.

How do you feel about Zetterberg getting mugged by 3 players and Jovo cross checking him repeatedly in the back of the head?

I feel that I hope this is the kind of thing that gets the Wings a little motivated to play better hockey! Although the Wings generally dont play an enforcer, they are not the type of team that I would want to get under their saddle by doing crap like that. When they are on, they can flat out demoralize a team like Phoenix.(Kind of like they did to Chicago that left a lingering effect for several weeks) Jovanovski has been a dumb butt since his days in Florida. I am not a huge fan of +/- as a stat, but I think he has only been a + player once in his career. He has played on some good teams also

Hey hey now... although true, that was below the belt :-P

I just hate crap like that at the end of a game you're certainly going to lose.

Blues waived Legace today:

He's been awful this year, and Mason has improved a lot lately. But he was a fan favorite.

It's too bad the Blues haven't been able to get it together this year. Injuries, lack of depth in Peoria, and probably a bit of Andy Murray wearing out his welcome have brought this team to where it is.

They are drawing very well, averaging well over 18,000 the last time I checked (sellout is 19,150), but I have a feeling Checketts and Davidson are getting to the end of the fans' patience.

Also, in an interesting story the Hawks don't have to worry about (anymore), season-ticket holders have really begun to grouse about all the cheap tickets being sold right now. I posted about a month ago about that ticket deal where I got 2 tickets to four remaining games of my choosing for less than $9/ticket. There is a lot of noise that the STH base is going to erode and people are just going to go ala carte if that's the way it's going to be.

Legace is better than Osgood!

I get the feeling Osgood is going to get benched also.

I think when a team is doing poorly and not drawing well, it is in a tough spot. Giving discounts to fill the place seems logical. But it can backfire by alienating the STHers. I think the only way to handle this is to make sure that you are going to put a competitive team on ice next season.

i feel like the red wings are doing an experiment where they see how awesome their forwards/defensemen have to be to overcome bad goalies.

Rangers got raped 10-2 tonight... in all honesty it should have been like 15-2 but there was so much mercy hockey being played.

The Stars scored 6 freaking goals in the 3rd.

Why do Penguins fans boo Hossa? I thought they never had any real chance to re-sign him because of cap issues. I thought the Oilers were the other major option for him to go to.

Kind of the nature of fans when they lose a high quality free agent to the most hated team in the league. It may not be fair but that's the way it is.
