I don't think Fred Armisen has ever made me even crack a smile when he's been onscreen. He's probably the least funny SNL cast member I can ever remember, and that's saying something.

 

Tim Meadows was less funny.

 

Fred Armisen's funniest moment was also his first, when he did the Spanish TV stand up comic on Weekend Update.

 

I agree that his Obama is bad. I'd rank their current impressions:

 

Palin (Fey)

McCain (Hammond)

Biden (Sudeikis)

Obama (Armisen)

The Biden impression is the one that's truly awful.

Sudekis completely ignores Biden's most prominent feature: his squinty, facelift-induced eyes.

Armisen has Obama's speech cadences down pat.

the Palin and McCain simply trump the Biden and Obama impressions. If you close your eyes and listen to them, neither the Biden nor the Obama sound anything like the candidate, whereas the Palin/McCain ones are spot on

I agree. I think it is probably the worst political impression they've ever done. I don't even think he has his cadence or mannerisms down. But, others disagree, so he must be doing something right (though I don't see it).

 

I thought the bit was very funny (including the Cubs part). Bill Murray being part of made it seem fun and not mean spirited. I thought the look on his face when they were saying the Cubs would never win was priceless.

I don't know who or what Keenan and Kel are so it did nothing for me.

 

It seems pretty clear that people that support Obama don't like the SNL impression (at least in this thread anyway). Darrell Hammond sounds exactly like McCain but he's done so many impressions that it's hard not to think about him doing Clinton, etal and not be distracted. I'm guessing there are probably about 10,000 people that could do a good Sarah Palin. It's a simple formula of looking like her and doing the accent from Fargo. It's the comedy equivalent of hitting a Howry fastball. It's still funny though. I also liked Parnell's Tom Brokaw.

Pretty sure that has nothing to do with it. I'm a reluctant Obama voter. It's just a bad impression. It's not like he's doing anything insulting to Obama that would offend his fans. It's just a terrible impression that sounds nothing like him.

agreed. Poehler's Hillary Clinton is awful too. The only funny part about it is the bitterness.
