Ted Lilly would have killed somebody

Ted Lilly is a robot; all he can do is pitch. I saw him on MLB 2008: An Epic Season on ESPN and was astonished to hear his voice.

does the company that "trains" leadoff hitters have a program to teach composure to pitchers who have to get eight outs an inning?

Hey! You makin' fun of me, man? You make fun that I want to train an army of leadoff hitters? If a scientist can take a bunch of body parts one Halloween and make a creature out of it, then why cant we build ourselves a leadoff hitter?

Maybe this doesn't need to be here, but I aways get the feeling this Z can't keep his composure crap is subtle/notsosubtle racism.

In before the split:

Theriot/Cedeno is totally subconscious racism. It's not KKK hang all blacks racism necessarily, but the descriptions of each player are hilarious.

Theriot's the guy that makes the most of his abilities, works hard every day, has fun playing baseball.

Cedeno is the buffoon who is too stupid to learn how to get better and when he should be working to get better he's out partying.

a-ram skills are on their way out,

OPS '04-'08

2004 - .951

2005 - .926

2006 - .913

2007 - .915

2008 - .898

he turns 31 next year, and i don't see his offensive production being better than it was this year. he'll probably OPS around .860-.870 which is still well above average production from third basemen, but i think someone might overpay for him and the cubs could get mlb ready talent or top prospects

Aramis posted the highest OBP of his career this season. He's not on his way out This may have been his best season since '04

Exactly. He made an adjustment to his approach this year and despite the lower power numbers was just about as productive, if not more so, as any of the last few years.

even if you view that as a trendline, it'd take over 5 years for him to drop to the .860 level

14 years from now he'll have withered away to an 800 OPS at this pace!

of course i'm being absurdist, but i have absolutely no clue how you came up with an arbitrary figure like .860-.870

yeah, if you look at other stats, like EqA, he's actually improved slightly each of the last 2 seasons.

or maybe it's that he breaks his bat every time he strikes out and punches catchers

Ted Lilly punched out his manager, ran over another teams catcher injuring him, and threw his glove down in a rage after giving up a homer to Chris Young in the playoffs last year. Yet when announcers talk about him they never give us that he can't control his emotions crap that they always spew about Z.

While your racism contention is absurd on its own, bringing up the Molina thing doesn't even make sense.

I thought it was a pretty crazy thing to do that could have hurt him when we were getting ready for the playoffs. Why risk getting hurt?

Why play him at all? No starters from August onward. When are you allowed to run into the catcher (A real part of the game), April? May?
