It wasn't my first game, but the first game that I can actually remember was Cubs vs. Dodgers and it was a slugfest, like 8 home runs were hit. Piazza hit two, I think. Sosa hit one. I don't really remember all the gory details except that it was home run derby.

Oh, and the Cubs lost, naturally

You are all youngsters. My first game was June 1, 1975.

I don't remember many of the details of the game except for a homerun by Andre Thornton and that the Cubs won. Before the game I remember there was a lot of talk about the Cubs being in, or near first place. My parents bought me a poster with individual pictures of each Cub that I had until I lost it during a move eight years ago. I can see it in my mind's eye, color pictures of Thornton, Jose Cardinal, Manny Trillo, Bill Madlock, the Reuschel brothers, Rick Monday, Joe "Tarzan" Wallis and the rest.

It looks like there were several future Cubs playing for the Dodgers that day. Davey Lopes, Bill Buckner, Ron Cey and Ivan DeJesus each took their turn in Cubbie blue eventually. Of course, Burt Hooten was already a former Cub while Rick Monday would go on to star for the Dodgers.

If this game were to happen today, do you think Lou would get roasted for having Jose Morales in the five-spot with his whopping .625 OPS when you have a budding superstar (Thornton) batting lower in the order with his .969 OPS? Thornton was my favorite player in those days, though he got traded (I think) to Cleveland shortly thereafter. (B-R check shows it was in mid-season '76 that he was traded)

Looking at that season on B-R, what strikes me is the attendance. The Cubs drew just over 1M and had attendance figures in some games that would make Florida seem like a baseball mecca. Of course the franchise was nearing 30 years of post-season futility and were coming down from the golden years (69-73) where the Cubs had some contending teams that didn't pan out. Sort of like where Milwaukee will be in a few years.....

My first baseball game was at old Cleveland Municipal in 1987 and I was about 7 months old. The Tigers beat the Indians 13-3. I only know this because it was in my baby book.

My first Cubs game was May 5, 2000, at Wrigley against Pittsburgh. Sammy Sosa and Eric Young both hit solo homers, but the Cubs lost 4-2.

I go to Chicago every year, so I try to go to a Cubs game every time.

2004-vs. Dodgers. Maddux pitching. Cubs lost

2005. vs. Marlins. Willis pitching for Marlins (don't remember who was pitching for the Cubs). Cubs lost

2006. vs Astros. Cubs lost.

August 1, 2007. v. Phillies. Rich Hill Pitching. Cubs won on a bases loaded wild pitch in the 9th.

August 1, 2008. vs Pirates. Marquis pitching. Karstens pitching for Pirates. Cubs lost 3-0.

August 6, 2008. vs Astros. Marquis pitching. Marquis gives up 4 runs in the top of the 4th. In the bottom of the 4th, with 1 on and two out, Backe walks the bases loaded. Derosa hits a grand slam. Kosuke hits a double. Jesus IBB'd. Marquis with an RBI double. Soriano with a 3 run home run. 8 run inning, Cubs win 11-5.

It was the best Cubs game ever :D

This was my first game at Wrigley

It was the first game after the All-Star break in 05, back when we thought Mark Prior was going to have a bright future in Chicago.

The Cubs won 5-1 and Dempster got the save, Prior with the win. His line? 8 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 10 K *sigh* I remember the ride back home the next day, and listening to the game where the Cubs won 11-1 with a great start by Woody to put them over .500.

I also remember hanging out around Wrigleyville before the game, and catching a baseball literally seconds after I sat down. We arrived at the stadium, I began to sit, then I saw Murton crush a ball during BP up to my seats, and it landed right in my lap.

Sometime in the late 50's is all I can tell ya. Too young, too long ago to remember details, too old now to remember anything. :?

I went yearly with little leaguers.

You are reallly all new guys. My first game at Wrigley Field was sometime just before labor day in 1953. The Cubs were playing the Pirates and my hero was Dee Fondy the Cub's first baseman. Ernie Banks (and Gene Baker) didn't join the team for a couple weeks after that.

My first game was in 1985. It was the first game after the mini-strike. We had tickets to see the Cards and Cubs play a few games in SL, but only got to see one game.

John Tudor 1 hits the Cubs. Leon Durham got the lone hit and the Cubs turned a triple play.

My first game at Wrigley came in August of '89. The Cubs were 1 game behind the 1st place Expos. The took on the 'spos and Maddux was on the hill. He threw a gem, Ryno went yard, and the Cubs tied for first place and never left that position.

I'll never forget walking up the steps to the grand stands. . . . .. seeing the ivy creep into view. . . followed by the greenest grass God ever created. I was 12 years old and I could barely breathe.

June 23, 1970. Mets 12, Cubs 10 in 10 innings. The Mets scored 7 in the 4th and the Cubs scored 5 in the 5th. The Cubs led 10-8 going into the 9th, but the Mets scored 2 in the 9th to tie the game and 2 more in the 10th to win (a 2-run home run by catcher Duff Dyer, who had entered the game when starting catcher Jerry Grote was removed for a pinch hitter). All 4 late-inning runs were scored off of reliever Phil Regan (back then relief pitchers frequently pitched multiple innings, before the day of the 1-inning closer). We had to leave the game after the 9th because I had a Boy Scout meeting that evening, but we heard the damage in the 10th on the car radio on the way home.

It was a lot of fun until the 9th...A big fight erupted in the stands a section to my right. I got to see Z! and Aramis homer which was nice. The next day was a lot more fun though. Juan Pierre and Derrek Lee homered, Cubs came back late and Demp closed it out. Marmol was electric starting that day. Probably had better stuff than Zambrano had the night before.

Mine was merely last year, against the Rockies. This was the classic where Howry Howry'd a 3-run homer in the 9th and the idiot charged the field at him and got wrecked by a security guard. Then Kaz "Anal Fissure" Matsui came up with the huge 2-out error to allow a Soriano game-winning hit.

This was a pretty good first game. Although I wish I had gone about 20 years earlier.

July 30, 1996

I knew that it was in late July/early August in 1996 but I didn't know the day. The only things I remember from the game are the Cubs winning and Sosa homering.

I was a little kid and don't remember the specifics. I think I was 5 or so.

I do remember standing in the 9th and hearing some guy scream "GET 'IM RANDAYYY" and turning to my dad, asking "Dad, is he yelling at me?"

Derrick May hit a home run....that's all I really remembered other than the announcement over the PA that the Bulls had just lost the series to the Knicks
