The problem is that posters get in player 'camps" and refuse to get out off them. Years ago it was Choi, it matter not a bit how badly he did, hsi fans refused to believe he wasn't a major league player. Next, Murton became a favorite. He was bad with us and horrible with the A's. Some still think he was screwed here.

Now it is happening with Cedeno. Hey, I have no problem with him as a utility guy, but no matter how well Theriot does, some just won't admit he is a better player than Cedeno.

Stubborness prevails.

And some people -- no matter how bad the head coach is flushing their alma mater's/favorite university's basketball program down the toilet -- refuse to acknowledge the possibility that the head basketball coach is an abject failure.

Stubborness prevails indeed.

I have no idea what this reference is to but it seems like a sick burn. ohhhhh

Pman has his nose so far up Bruce Weber's behind that I have no idea how he can even watch the games.

Nice, [expletive]. The fact you were dead wrong on Choi really still bothers you, doesn't it? I don't blame you for being bitter, you looked like a fool.

Of course not. I've certainly been wrong before and I'll be wrong again.

I just think its funny listening to the president of the Bruce Weber Apologists lecturing others about stubborness.

You need to get over your past failings

And you need to actually acknowledge your own.

Sorry, this is a baseball board, not an Illinois basketball board. I can separate those things.

So, in other words, blind stubborness is accepted when discussing the Illinois basketball coach, but not the Cubs.

Gotcha.

In the last inning, Cedeno has failed at 1) bunting, 2) catching a ball thrown right after him after 3) he failed to cover 1st base on a bunt. What is it that he's good at again?

not being a complete tool on NSBB

...says the guy with 17,000 posts, 100 or less of which are actually about the Cubs.

Don't go a changin' either.

Aaaand he follows it up by diving into 1st base. Oh boy.

Theriot should have quadruple clutched that and allowed Murphy to have the inside-the-park home run.

I don't want to derail this thread, but Aramis is the shiznet.

I wish I could find Barry Rozner and the dude from the Trib and have a little Royal Rumble.

yup, Theriot double clutched, but also had 3 hits and a stolen base.

Cedeno failed to cover 1st on an obvious bunt (got there late and dropped the throw), made ANOTHER miserable sac bunt and continued to do that goofy slide into first base where he is called out every time. Oh, he was also 0-5 with 3 K's.

Neither guy is perfect, and he sure isn't an all-star, but I will take Theriot every day of the week over Cedeno.

You sound like the kind of person who sat in your dorm every weekend and got irate when you overheard people drinking their devil beers down the hall. Why are you people drinking that liquid poison, you should be watching 8 movies a day!!!

I agree wholeheartedly with the last sentence above. I'll never get the desire for people, Cubs fans no less, not to get behind him 100 percent. He doesn't get on in the 10th, we don't win. Period. Sure, obsess over his imperfections, but he's had a great season, and any notion to "bench" Theriot is absurd.

I can take or leave Cedeno, but he sure strikes me as a dumb player most of the time.

Theriot has worked his butt off to maximize his talent and had a fine year. I, too, don't understand why so many posters are against him.

I'm not "aganst" him, but I want the Cubs to upgrade SS if possible. Cedeno isn't that upgrade, but Theriot's age, sub-Neifi/Pierre levels of power, terrible defense and horrible baserunning meas he should be the backup in 2009 for, ideally, whoever the Cubs find as their new starting SS.

depending on the new ownership, SS is likely a position the Cubs will be happy to have filled on the cheap next year
