The magic number in now ten.

Also, the Cubs have six games with the Brewers. Each win against the Brewers lowers the number by two. If we can split those six games, the magic number will be four for the remaining games. I really don't see any way that we don't win the division if we can just split those six with the Brewers.

I was listening the 620 on the radio, the Brewers station before the game, and the way they were tallking, they had no intention of catching the Cubs, and were more worried about the Astros and Phillies. They essentially said that they should be rooting for the Cubs in the Astros series.

Well duh.....6 game behind the Cubs vs. 2 games up over the Phillies.

Honestly, not wanting to play the Phillies in the first round, I'll be cheering for the Brewers the next couple of days.

There is potential to clinch this week. It's unlikely, but possible. They just can't keep playing like crap.

A sweep of the Brewers would wipe six games off of the magic number.

Tomorrow could wipe out 3 games too. Though that would pull the phillies into a tie for the wild card and potientially the Cubs playing them in the 1st round. Something I would not be excited about.

They aren't that scary. We can take 'em. I might prefer having the CC/Sheets combo taken out before they can do damage in the playoffs.

I would just rather take on the Dodgers first then worry about whoever after that.

I might witness firsthand the Cubs clinching the division next Sunday against the Cards. Man, that would be nothing short of incredible!

You're just now starting to get optimistic? We had a great and enjoyable summer this year, sorry you missed out on it.

There really is no reason to have to get up the optimism for the regular season, we need to pool all of our optimism for the first round (and all of our players health).

The question is then, do you want to end up with the Brewers in the second round if it came down to it? In a playoff situation, I wouldnt put it past Yost to go Sabathia-Sheets-off day-other guy-Sabathia-Sheets

No, actually I've been optimisitc for awhile. I think I posted a similar thread when there were forty games left on the schedule.

This thread was simply done to show that as long as we take care of business versus the Brewers, the division is locked up. A playoff spot has been locked up for the past couple of weeks.

But glad you took the time to show some condescension. I've been enjoying this season since April and it's been one hellova ride.

Nothing against you, but who do you want to play in the first round?

The LA school for the Blind?

Seriously, the Cubs have the pitching to beat any team in baseball. They have the offense to contend with any team.

It seems like every time I open one of these threads I see somebody saying "I don't want to play in the first round.

I'm just hoping the Cubs clinch with a win and not a Brewers loss like last year. It's always nice seeing the celebration right away rather than having to wait a couple hours to see if someone else loses.

Don't worry fellas, Derrek Lee is going to lead the Cubs to clinching the division by no later then Sunday. Why? I am working on my voodoo to make sure Lee's bat will be productive till the end of October.
