During the course of a long 162 game season, a lot of little moments get forgotten in the glut of games, and peaks and valleys. Everyone will remember Fukudome's Opening Day HR, the beatdown in Milwaukee, the comeback vs. Colorado, etc. but sometimes its the little things that make a season special to each individual person. I just felt it was appropriate to have a thread like this one to remember these moments in the midst of what figures to be, in one way or another, a special season.

Here are a few particular moments I remember:

-Soto taking a charge at the plate by Prince Fielder - and holding onto the ball and not being shaken up.

-Lee hitting that opposite field double to plate the game winning run in the first game of that Brewers series.

-Reed Johnson's go ahead HR to sweep Arizona at Wrigley.

Feel free to add on.

Reed Johnson's epic go ahead homer against Pittsburgh last month.

Brandon Backe's reaction after Soriano took him deep for a three run shot in that huge inning.

Cedeno's million RBIs in two games vs the Mets

Pie's single vs. Pitt

Edmonds's catch at Houston when we still thought he sucked

Edmonds batflip vs. Cards

Aramis's batflip vs. Giants

The June weekend smackdown of the White Sox, and especially Edmonds' two homer inning.

That was a fun moment. I remember being so pissed when Marquis gave up that 2 run shot the previous inning.

The Geovany Soto in the park home run in Houston

The Reed Johnson bill flip catch

Ted Lilly charging over Molina, and almost laughing as he rolled around in agony

The 9th inning go ahead home run off of Jose Valverde on Monday that causes his head to explode.

Jim Edmonds curtain call at Wrigley against the Cardinals is my favorite moment. Talk about rubbing it in. It was beautiful.

Also the Cubs were losing their grip on the Central lead in late July against the Marlins, the last game right before the "Milwaukee Massacre" series, down 5-0 early thanks to Marquis, the Cub fought back and Mike Fontenot supplied the clutch bases loaded double to take the lead. Cubs Win 9-6 and "take their bats to Milwaukee" as Lou stated.

Lou's "You think I'm stupid or something?" snap to reporters questioning his decision to leave Soriano in defensively late in a ballgame.

Truth be told, though, I hope to not remember many of these things in about a month and a half.

The fact that NLDS Game 5 and the Yankee and Cardinal series are the highlights of 03 for me is a sad one.

Aramis's bad ass pose and strut on his grand slam vs. Philly.

That whole AB + aftermath is branded into my memory banks. I still get shivers of joygasm just thinking about it.

My favorite since I was at the game with my Sox-loving nephew:

Lee and Ramirez going back-to-back to tiethe game in the 7th, followed by ARam's walk-off against the White Sox.

The look on my nephew's face on the way home was priceless.

Just about everything Jimmy did, especially the "HEY HEY" homer vs Atlanta and the STL game.

The fact that almost every Cubs player has a big late-inning hit this year, go-ahead, tying, closing-the-gap, or extending-the-lead variety.

In that vein - Pie's homer vs the Mets, Cedeno's slam vs the Mets, Aramis's huge homers vs Colorado, SF, Philly and the Sox, Ward's homer in Florida, Reed's homers against Arizona and...(there's another one, I think Philly).

Soto/Fielder. Lilly/Molina.

Backe jumping around like a nutcase after getting screwed on a strike three call with the bases loaded.

Dempster's awkward hug with Marisa Miller.

The 8th inning magic vs Florida.

The Reed Johnson walk-off single after the Marmol implosion vs San Fran.

The time Marmol came in a game vs Houston (I think the same game as Jimmy's catch) with bases loaded and no one out and I told my friend I was watching with that Houston wasn't scoring a run, and they didn't.

There are a lot more. I've crammed a lot of memories out of this team because I know it will probably never get any better than this summer.

ETA: Soto's inside the park home run vs Houston, and also how could I forget Jeff Samarzdija improbably playing for the Cubs after two years as one of my favorite college football players.

I think I realized that this season was going to be something special after the Rockies comeback.

This is a bad one, but Marmol's meltdown in Harden's first start followed by Sean Marshall getting the leadoff single to spark the winning rally.

Fontenot's go-ahead homer in San Fran.

God it's been a really good season.

reed johnson's running/diving catch with his hat brim flattened out.

ahhh thought I was going to get it but nope at the very last post you beat me to it ... that is one of the best catches ever IMO.

I was gone and unable to see Lilly's start against the Cardinals - I just watched it and his shot on Molina is priceless. anyone have a picture of that? That would make a great avatar...

- The huge storm in Chicago for the Monday night game against the Astros, and Lance Berkman running like a little girl from the lightning. Honorable mention to Jimmy and Reed laughing at him from the dugout and D. Lee sitting there mouting "oh, ****."

- Every badass Aramis batflip

Was Eyre peaking out of the scoreboard in Houston this year?

If so, that.

That was '07.
