I don't worry about the road cap. I have an old dirty home cap, but I wear a 2007 NLCentral Champs hat most of the time. Next year, I am planning on wearing a Cubs hat that says 2008 World Champions. Hope my plans work out. . .

Also, chalk me up under the people who like the blue alt. jerseys.

+1. Z looks even more awesome in a blue road jersey.

i like the thirds in baseball. baseball needs more color in it. the home team wearing white and the road team wearing grey are boring, especially in this era of high definition digital television. i don't understand why teams don't have them. of all sports, baseball is the one that is least dependent on the color of jersey. the d-backs and astros could both wear their red alternates and it wouldn't affect gameplay any.

You read a blog about uniform changes every day?????

If you can look past Paul Lukas bitching his glasses off about seeing the Nike logo on something or teams with teal or purple as a color (not always an easy task, granted), it's often an excellent daily read for people who take note of and interest in the uniform side of the sports we watch. I read it daily.

But is there really enough new material to warrant a daily blog on uniforms? Just how in depth does this guy go?

http://www.uniwatchblog.com/

Full posts on weekdays, uni-related photos with an attempt at a caption on weekends.

The initial half of the full posts are usually devoted to a feature of some sort, either coverage of a uniform-related announcement (New Orleans Hornets' new uniforms, NHL new jersey template, etc) an interview with a uniform-related professional (the NY Giants equipment manager is a friend of the site) or someone with a uniform-related story to tell. They're hit or miss, but will occasionally provide worthwhile insight.

The second half is the ticker, an amalgamated listing of uniform-related tidbits from various sources.

I'll be the first to admit that if you're not inclined to find this manner of obsessive-compulsive study interesting, the blog will alternatively bore you to tears and make you go "people actually care about this crap?", but I'm the sort of person who believes/knows things like:

- All players should wear the high socks because they look better

- MLB switched to New Era's new onfield cap as of last season, made of a sweat-wicking polyester material and with a black underbrim to reduce glare (as opposed to the previous hats, which were 100% wool with a grey underbrim)

- The Cubs utilize a proprietary numeric typeface not used by any other major league organization

- The Cardinals are one of only a handful of major league teams to have striped stirrups as part of the team uniform (even if Anthony Reyes and Brendan Ryan are the only two recent Cardinals to wear them)

- The Phillies' stirrups actually have a stylized image of the Liberty Bell on them

- Pedro Martinez has a habit of pitching with his 2nd jersey button unfastened

and other such uniform-related miscellanea, so more often than not I'll come across something of interest to me in a day's entry. As I said, however, the blog definitely isn't for everyone, and more people than not will probably find reading it to be a waste of time.

I like my road cap better.

Same here; I have both caps but prefer the road cap (and as a result, Laurens usually wears the home cap)

Seems like a lot of revenue to be possibly throwing down the drain.

I wonder how many people go out of their way to buy the road cap...

red is my favorite color. it looks good on the hat and i have no problem with the cubs having a home and road cap. this year i finally got an official hat that fits, but its the home hat. i would get the road hat, but not too many stores carry cubs hats in size 8 however i do plan on doing so in the future.

if you all hate it so much, demand that the red "C" on the cap change to a different color or come off competely.

The red color in and of itself isn't the issue people have. I don't know about everybody else, but I think it looks kind of cartoony with the red bill and button and just prefer the more traditional look of the all blue hat.

Similarly, I think the alternate hats the Reds have worn in the past (and possibly currently, I really don't pay attention) don't look nearly as good as the all red with the traditional C on them.

I too would be glad to see the road caps gone. I never liked them; they seemed gimmicky.

Just one hat, please. You can have alternate jerseys (I like the blue alternate), but the cap should always be the same: all blue.

I'd also like to throw my $0.02 in about the names on the backs of the home jerseys. No names with pinstriped jerseys. Period. And get rid of the red outline on the numbers on the home jersey, too.

FWIW, I stopped wearing the 5950 years ago, because I can never find them in my size in the stores (they never go above 7 3/4--I'm 7 7/8 or 8), and frankly I just don't like the high brow style of hat anymore, even when the bill is curved (I refuse to wear any baseball cap straight-billed).

How about bringing back a version of the "Cuba" road uniform of the early 90s?

I can get behind this idea.

they were all sold to the Cuban Olympic team
