Lee and Ramirez both hit it pretty well, but to the wrong part of the park.

This game is probably why they have that saying, "Can't win them all".

5 IP 1 ER. Why the hell would you take him out? No manager in the game would have.

You've been struggling to get runners on all game, you have a chance to take the lead, your starter hasn't looked that good and you have 3 guys in the pen who can give you at least 2 shut down innings?

It's getting so hard to see the Cubs lose, I am going to have to turn it to the Bears game because I cannot handle watching the outs pile up

And your facing a very good offense, and its highly unlikely that the Phillies are going to be held to 1 run. Plus with Hamels stuff and the IF playing in, the chances of a PH actually getting the run in are minimal. Plus you have to burn your pen with 3 more games against the Phillies this weekend. There is no reason to take out a starter that has only given up 1 run and 80 pitches at that point.

Dempster had looked good since the first inning. Come on, you don't take an ace-caliber pitcher out of a tie game in the 5th inning when he has at least one more inning in him. If it was the 7th or 8th inning maybe.

Hell, I'm watching the DNC right now.

We'll agree to disagree then. It's not like we're an average team. We're the best team in baseball, and we've got guys in the pen completely capable of holding the Phillies to 1. Just because Dempster's pitch count wasn't that high doesn't mean he had looked good tonight.

Agreed...plus, who is on the bench who you trust to get good contact against Hamels? The PH options are bad against him.

That's a real tough decision for a manager to make but I have to agree. You need to leave him in. We can afford to lose this game and there is no reason to destroy the pen.

Yep Cubs have given up
You've got to be kidding me. You honestly believe that a team 33 games above .500 gives up on games that they're clearly not out of? I can understand being frustrated by what you see, but heck, at least be realistic.

Why? Shouldn't you give yourself the best chance at winning? If it was the 2nd or 3rd it's one thing, but it's getting late in the 5th, and with Hamels on the mound, there's a great chance you won't have a runner in scoring position the rest of the game. You've got to take the chance there.

But instead we left him in, he gave up 3, and threw 34 more pitches.
