you always know what it's going to be, but it just never gets old

Agreed. Fantastic all around. Pat Hughes might be the best baseball announcer on earth.

My 2nd favorite part was when Howard is coming up, Ron goes "This is not fun." Hilarious. I heart Pat and Ron.

yeah i don't listen to them often because i don't live near chicago and usually when i'm following a game, it's via mlb.tv.

but pat always seems to do a good job of passing along pertinent information - like how hard it is to homer off of durbin. he does a great job of passing along the feel of the game to the listener. and another thing i noticed is how well he does to keep the broadcast fun and light-hearted. for example, cory provus was supposed to come on and give an update of the brewers-cards game, but his mike wasn't working or he wasn't ready or something. rather than say "sorry about that, we're having some technical difficulties" like most announcers would, he said something along the lines of "cory is never one to toot his own horn, and he's very bashful. hopefully we can get him to open up soon."

i guess i just like a guy who jokes around like that.

Pat Hughes called my store one time to talk to a manager about God-knows-what, and he started off with, "Hello, Rob, Pat Hughes calling to speak with [name of manager here]," and his tone of voice, and his manner of speaking, and, whatever, he sounded EXACTLY like he did on the radio. That's probably the closest I've ever come to meeting someone famous, and, sadly, the most exciting thing that's ever happened to me at work.

He shook my hand prior to the home opener in 2005. :hello:

I found this on Cards Talk (go figure). I have a goofy sense of humor and couldn't stop laughing when I read this post so I decided to share:

Post subject: Re: Who to root for tonight: Phils or Cubs?

Did you see the taters Durbin was serving up?? GOOD LORD! Credit the Cubs (Fontenot, Sorrynono and AssRam) for not missing them but my goodness, they were the heart of the plate.
