Solid performance by McMahon. I think it's a rally starter.

On a side note, I think I die a little on the inside every time I hear "Goodbye mr made up of different stuff guy."

Geovany Soto. I'm not sure why he didn't hit a 3-run Hr there, but Soto works in mysterious ways.

he's building anticipation and tension

Yep Cubs have given up
You've got to be kidding me. You honestly believe that a team 33 games above .500 gives up on games that they're clearly not out of? I can understand being frustrated by what you see, but heck, at least be realistic.

Obviously it was hyperbole, but the 6-7 pitch inning in the 6th didn't look very inspired

5 IP 1 ER. Why the hell would you take him out? No manager in the game would have.

You've been struggling to get runners on all game, you have a chance to take the lead, your starter hasn't looked that good and you have 3 guys in the pen who can give you at least 2 shut down innings?

Dempster had looked good since the first inning. Come on, you don't take an ace-caliber pitcher out of a tie game in the 5th inning when he has at least one more inning in him. If it was the 7th or 8th inning maybe.

Why? Shouldn't you give yourself the best chance at winning? If it was the 2nd or 3rd it's one thing, but it's getting late in the 5th, and with Hamels on the mound, there's a great chance you won't have a runner in scoring position the rest of the game. You've got to take the chance there.

But instead we left him in, he gave up 3, and threw 34 more pitches.

How much better of a chance did Cedeno have of getting the run in than Dempster? Better, but I still don't like the odds of it happening. Since Wood is unavailable, you were trading an inning of Dempster for an inning of somebody like Howry for a slighlty larger chance of getting one run that probably wouldn't win the game anyways.

Cole Hamels is a very, very good pitcher.

Yea, time to start getting ready for the trip to Cape Cod. I'll settle for listening to the rest. Doubt I'll be missing much. Losing less than anyone else in baseball doesn't make losses any easier to watch.

Which is why you should be working the count and trying to get him out of the game. They didn't swing at any good pitches to hit that inning. Granted, Hamels doesn't toss a lot of hittable pitches, but at least be a little patient and don't hack away at everything
