The Cubs easily defeated the Pirates in game one of the series, with Kosuke Fukudome and Jim Edmonds getting big hits. Game two features the Cubs ace, Carlos Zambrano, and the less-than-spectacular Ian Snell. In two starts against the Cubs in 2008, Snell is 0-1 with a 6.30 ERA. Meanwhile, Carlos Zambrano is 1-0 in three starts with a 5.82 ERA against the Pirates.

I predict that the Cubs will hit 4 home runs tomorrow. Z will go 7 innings, 2 runs, 6 hits, 7 Ks. Cubs win 12-4.

Let's see how far off I can be today!

 

Cubs have owned Snell. Last night's lineup plus Zambrano is hitting a career .364/.449/.661/1.110 off of Ian Snell. But since the last time vs. the Cubs, Snell has worked on mechanics and has given up just 5 ERs in his last 19 innings. But despite the numbers, Snell has had some decent outings in the past against the Cubs. This will be a true test if he has really turned it around. I think the Cubs will hit him, but also wouldn't be suprised if he limits the damage and manages a poor man's quality start (6 IP, 3 ERs).

 

Zambrano has had trouble w/ McLouth and Doumit, and Moss took him deep last time. So, if he can avoid walking people, those 3 can't do enough damage to score more than a couple runs against him. Hopefully, the Cubs can put up a couple early and Carlos can put on cruise control like he has his last 2 times vs. the Pirates.

 

I think this would be a big game to win, and win the series maybe getting a shot to rest a couple players for the day game tomorrow.

If the Cubs win this game, they will get to 32 games over .500 which ties the high point of both the 1984 and 1969 seasons.

 

The Cubs current .618 winning percentage through 131 games is their best start since 1945 when they were at .631 at this point in the season.

I hadn't noticed this, but thanks to this weekend, the Cubs have actually allowed the fewest runs in the NL along with scoring the most. 2nd overall in scoring in the majors, 3rd overall in runs allowed in the majors.
