This is what I'm saying. You may think the game threads are bad, but I think the people constantly calling out people are worse. CubManPi, you made an excellent post there.

Maybe there should be 2 game threads each game. An "emotional reaction" game thread and a "analysis" game thread just so people on both sides would shut up and we could all post in peace

wow, another really, really embarrassing game thread. don't you guys want to enjoy any of this historic season, or do you plan on continuing to break down into tearful fits of rage after every little mistake any cubs player makes? have a little perspective...ridiculous.

You could take the high road and stop reading the game threads if they upset you so much.

i only read them now to mock them. the best part about games like this (a game, by the way, that i was 100% confident in the cubs winning at all times...even though if they hadn't won, it would not have mattered one iota) is coming here to read a bunch of hysterical weirdos denounce the team (a team with the best offense, pitching, record, etc in the league, by the way) for meaningless individual plays in meaningless games.

i can't believe that this board is now almost completely void of decent baseball discussion during the best season of any of our lives. it's pathetic. i mostly just come here now to talk about movies and make fun of derwood (who is actually right for once on this subject, so i can't even make fun of him for that).

You don't really add anything by mocking the game thread and the people in it. And what's the point of coming into every game thread and announcing how bad they are? Are you trying to show that you are better than everyone else because you knew the Cubs would win the whole time and didn't react emotionally to the mistakes in the game? I'm sure you've reacted the same way privately as people do publicly. I agree with EJ, take the high road.

yeah, i've reacted like that to playoff games or meaningful regular season games. oh, and i probably also reacted like that when i was 12 or something. but this thing's in the bag, guys. the cubs are going to the playoffs even though, for some reason, some people want to deny it.

an error in last night's game is not worth getting worked up about. now is the time to relax and enjoy the team or maybe even spend some of your life doing something besides hanging on every pitch of cubs baseball.

and sure, i don't contribute anything by mocking the game thread, but obviously nobody adds to the game thread with the message board equivalent of a poopy diaper, red-faced, tearful temper tantrum, which is what 90% of this thread's posts were.

I expect absolute quiet, cavier, and a snifter of fine brandy.

of course you react to the game when you watch, but not once this year have I watched a game and thought "that's it, the season is over" over one play. In fact, I pretty much expect them to win every game they play now, which is a welcome change over the past 15 or so years of watching the team.

I don't really think it's that bad. It's just fans freaking out like they always do. This is the sanctuary for being a stupid fan, the game thread, the "I'm lost in the moment" thread. There's still good discussion going on in the other forums.

I don't understand why you & others let it bother you so much. Come on, you're abuck, you're supposed to be above all this (see how I appeal to your better nature there?)

problem is, it's not just confined to game threads any more.

and it doesn't bother me...if people want to act like idiots, they can. i just won't read/post in the baseball areas as much or at all.

When you're with your friends watching the game, do you have the time it takes to type out a post and hit the Submit button to react? Or do you just react right away.

And when you're out watching the game at the bar and the Cubs give up a few runs in game 130-something, do you melt down, declare that NLCS-caliber teams don't lose to the Nationals and have a hissy fit?

Think about how many great posters there are at NSBB. Think about how many of them used to post in game threads during games. Now think about how many of them still post in game threads. Much, much fewer. It's a shame. I don't come to game threads to see how other people react when something happens in the game. I come for analysis and maybe updates.

I didn't have access to the game for an hour during work (couldn't listen and Gameday was crashing on my work comp) and I actually chose to not know what was going on in the game rather than have to wade in here.

What exactly happened? I wouldn't blame somebody for getting annoyed and posting something obnoxious after Soriano's gaffe, or Lou's stupid sac bunt. It's not like it takes a considerably amount of time to type out, "you stupid mofo hopping sob!". Talking about the season being over and whatnot would be stupid, but for as long as I've seen people posting on message boards during a game, I've seen people get worked up over annoying things that happen on the field. And I don't see a problem with it.

And while the season more likely than not is in the bag, I would hardly call any remaining game meaningless until they clinch, or are ready to clinch a week before the season ends.

This.

When I'm watching the game with my friends, you can be sure as hell I'm not like yelling out a bunch of nonsense about the team or players sucking like some lunatic.

I usually roll my eyes at the people who do. In fact, those people frustrate me a lot more than the game, lulz. Hey, just like the game threads....

My uncle does that with the Braves...but the whole family thinks he's a lunatic.

Anyway, what if we took a page from the brewerfan.net book and made a Vent thread for all of those posters to post their irrational overreactions.

It'd be nice to be able to actually discuss the game without all that.

that may be the only solution because different people are going to react different ways and some people saying "season over" are just being emotional and most likely tongue in cheek...

i have always been able to find an update in a game thread and i usually laugh at all of the noise as well...oh well...if this really pisses people off...two game threads is probably the way to go

If someone wants an update, they should ask for it. I've never had a problem getting one upon request when Fred isn't around to do the PBPs.

I've never understood getting an update on the game from a message board game thread. If you are on the internet, there are so many better/quicker ways to get that update.

If you want somebody who actually saw something to explain a play, okay, but asking for inning/score seems like an odd decision. And getting those descriptions isn't hard.

Agreed. I think people are talking more about how a pitcher looks, etc, vs asking for a boxscore line.
