I particularly like the Brewers fan who said he'd take Suppan over Z and Dempster because of his postseason numbers.

I wonder what he thinks about CC and his 7.17 postseason ERA?

For that matter, you have to wonder what Sheets will have left by that point in the season. Same with Parra. Both those guys could hit the wall in October. Parra is a rookie and hasn't pitched this much in September. Sheets hasn't gone this deep in a season for a while.

Same could be said for Dempster and Harden though.

From Rob Neyer chat today:

Jon (Mad-Town): Can you help settle a debate that my friend and I were having? I declared Ryan Dempster the Cubs Ace of 2008 but he continues to insist that it's Zambrano. So, who is the Cubs Ace?

SportsNation : (12:32 PM ET ) Rich Harden.

That's pretty much the truth.

Little more:

Cory (Atlanta): Rob, you're playing devil's advocate with that Rich Harden response. Can't call him the Cubs ace for the season yet, although he looks untouchable right now. How much would you say the odds of the Cubs making the series change with his presence in the rotation?

SportsNation Rob Neyer: (12:41 PM ET ) Yeah, I was engaging in a bit of flippancy. But if you were facing the Cubs tomorrow, who would you most want to avoid? I say it's Harden. Whether that's still the answer in October, only his fragile body knows.

Clay (East Brunswick, NJ): Do you agree with Jayson Stark's notion that the Cubs have the best postseason rotation? I certainly do. They have a shot to have three starters finish the year with sub-3.00 ERA's. That doesn't happen anymore.

SportsNation : (12:20 PM ET ) Yeah, probably. The Diamondbacks will look pretty good, too, if they make it. And the Angels.

Even if every series goes the max, we can go with a 3 man rotation of Z, Harden, Dempster until the WS only having to go with Z once on 3 days rest (game 4 of first series) and Dempster once on 3 days rest (game for second series). The only time we'd have to pitch Lilly would be game 4 of the WS.

Currently, heres the schedule:

Oct. 1: Game 1 of both NL series; Game 1 of AL series between two division champions

Oct. 2: Game 2 of both NL series; Game 1 of AL series

Oct. 3: Game 2 of both AL series

Oct. 4: Game 3 of both NL series

Oct. 5: Game 4 of both NL series; Game 3 of both AL series

Oct. 6: Game 4 of both AL series

Oct. 7: Game 5 of both NL series

Oct. 8: Game 5 of both AL series

Oct. 9: NLCS Game 1

Oct. 10: NLCS Game 2; ALCS Game 1

Oct. 11: ALCS Game 2

Oct. 12: NLCS Game 3

Oct. 13: NLCS Game 4; ALCS Game 3

Oct. 14: ALCS Game 4

Oct. 15: NLCS Game 5

Oct. 16: ALCS Game 5

Oct. 17: NLCS Game 6

Oct. 18: NLCS Game 7; ALCS Game 6

Oct. 19: ALCS Game 7

Oct. 22: World Series Game 1

Oct. 23: World Series Game 2

Oct. 25: World Series Game 3

Oct. 26: World Series Game 4

Frankly, I'd rather pitch Lilly than Z or Demp on 3 days' rest, especially if just pitching him once can allow Z and Demp normal rest the rest of the way. Lilly's been pretty solid since May or so, so it's not like we'd be throwing Shawn Estes out there.
