I only caught clips of it when it came out... but I remember, I think, Ron Santo saying, "I see someone coming out of nowhere to lead the Cubs to a World Series victory".

Is it just me... or do you guys think of the following:

Reed Johnson

Jim Edmonds

Jeff Samardzija

After seeing that?

I hate to get too ahead of myself but I just picture one of them doing the unthinkable to either get us to the series or win it...

Cubs lore, I love you.

Not a bad CF platoon?

if players could lose a bit of the ego and everyone was accepting of it, platoons at nearly every position would be the way to go. you have pinch hitters for late game situations, too. wasn't oakland trying to exploit that recently?

I nearly had a heart attack looking at this thread title....thought something had happened.

Same here, Ron NEEDS to see the Cubs win a World Series before he goes, granted I also hope he lives 100 more years.

Except there are plenty of players that hit both righties and lefties well, and some players (Cedeno) that have reverse splits?

Also most teams don't have the roster space to field enough players to do it. Its great in certain situations with exaggerated splits like Johnson and Edmonds, but the rest of our players mash lefties and righties equally. (Or at least our offense as a whole has anyway, this isn't the 2007 Cubs who flailed uselessly against lefties most of the year)

Same goes for my dad. He's the reason I'm a Cub fan. He's getting up there in age, has lots of health problems, and is slowly going blind. I want it more for him than anyone else.

My Dad follows the Cubs quietly for most of the season, but it's funny to watch him when they are in the race. He called me yesterday and asked if I had seen "Cubs Forever." Then he rattles off all these memories he has and says, "we have to get to Wrigley before the end of the year!"

We both live 300 miles from Chicago, in opposite directions. But I'm going to try to make it happen.

And as for Ronnie, it wouldn't be right for him to leave us without two things: his HOF induction and a championship. With any luck (okay, with lots of luck), both will happen in the next 12 months.

That probably explains the quality of his color analysis.

You've heard my dad analyze a Cub game before? :-k

you started the description with "same goes for my dad" -- comparing santo and your dad. I think he's just messing with you :)

Hopefully everything I said about Ron also applies for your father.
