Felipe Lopez-2B-Cardinals Aug. 6 - 1:57 am et

Cardinals signed infielder Felipe Lopez for the rest of the season.

It's not the best situation for Lopez as far as playing time, but he does get to join a contender. He'll join Aaron Miles as a backup at shortstop and second base. If he gets off to a fast start, it's possible he could win a starting job. However, it's not a very good bet. Brendan Ryan will be sent down to open up a roster spot.

I read the thread title and was thinking "what the hell is he talking about?" and then I thought for a second and rolled my eyes as I already knew what team he signed with.

would rather had him signed with a non division rival, but I don't think he'll make an impact so its not a big deal.

He really should take over at short right away.

And God, I remember how much Cards fans ranted about the awesomeness of Brendan Ryan. Funny how that's turned out.

LOL Lopez is starting in left field tonight. Seriously, left soapdropping field. And I don't remember anyone ever ranting about the awesomeness of Brendan Ryan.

Stunting the super stardom of Joe Mather.

I'm convinced that Tony La Russa draws out of a hat who plays LF and RF on any given night. If Ankiel is injured/out, then it's all three positions. Every time I see a game they have a different outfield alignment.

Exactly. The only way it could get lamer is if the phrase "pixie dust" was used.

Well ole Lopez likely got in the doghouse with LaRussa already, he made a bone head base running play tonight trying to score when he should have stopped at 3rd. Just before that the announcer where talking about him. Saying how he plays with a bit too much "flair" at times and tries to "do too much".

Lopez tried to score from 2nd, on what amounted to an infield single. Loney cut him down at home. A heads up play... :good:

He'll soon find out that only "Sir" Albert gets away with that stuff....LOL
