Nothing confirmed in reliable reports so take this with a grain of salt but I heard Alex Maestri - who's missed about a month now - has tendonitis.

Hart pitched the ninth for Iowa and got the win.

Does Hart pitching in Iowa in relief mean anything? It seems that he's been pitching pretty well as a starter in Iowa, but (this year at least) when he's been called up as a reliever he hasn't pitched well at all.

It probably does since Iowa's rotation outside of Atkins isn't that great.

Colvin is 1 for 3 with a triple, walk and strikeout. He's been hitting for quite some power in his last 10 games (.756 SLG).

It might mean the Cubs want him to be used to pitching in relief, warming up in a hurry, and working on back to back days.

Will we see Vitters back in Peoria this year?

I doubt it.

Ryan Flaherty just hit a long HR - second straight day with a HR.

Vitters is 0 for 2 with a groundout and a K looking.

Damn I was hoping to get over and see him. Think he will start there next year or will he skip Peoria?

He'll definitely start at Peoria next season.

Dionis Nuñez gets the start for Mesa.

Rehabbing Mark Reed gets the start for Mesa, he's DHing.

Nice to see Flaherty raking...

Not including today's game which should bump up his numbers:

.312/.409/.523 .932 OPS

17/19 BB:K

Another interesting thing is that (albeit in a small sample size of 18 AB's), he's hitting lefties even better than righties.

If he can stay at short, which is debatable, we might actually have some nice SS's in the system for once with him and Hak-Ju.

Vitters goes the other way for a single. Hitting streak is up to 13 games.

Now a single for Flaherty. Ryan is 2 for 3.

my interest in flaherty has reached level yellow. he gets above 1.000 OPS and it's at orange.

Despite a late field goal from Chattanooga to put the game within 2, the Tennessee Titans pull away with the 18-16 victory.
I'd HOPE an NFL team could beat a Division 1-AA college team. :D

Vitters ends up 2 for 5 with 2 singles. Flaherty 2 for 5 with a single and that homer.

Mesa managed just 2 hits. Larry Suarez threw 2.1 scoreless with 2 strikeouts but walked 2. His ERA is down to 1.00 with 8 Ks in 9 innings on the season (not bad for TJS rehab) but he has 5 BB.

Flaherty's hitting has been very refreshing lately. He looks like he has a chance to be a good professional hitter. How much power he'll show, time will tell. But for now, at least, it seems at least plausible to hope that he'll have end up with decent game power.

His defense has been a big and disappointing surprise to me. 10 errors in 30 games? And that's for a guy who I understood to be short on range in the first place? My take had been that while he wasn't going to be a big-range guy, that they thought he could be a very skilled, reliable guy with what he could reach. But if his range is mediocre and he's an error-factory besides, that doesn't look positive at all.

Hopefully that will turn around soon, or else they'll get him to 2B ASAP and he'll be better there.

I admit when we drafted him, I immediately assumed he was foremost a 2B prospect. That would seem to be one of the two positions where we don't know who will be playing it beyond next year (2B and CF), and both of which they will want a lefty hitters.

I'm not suggesting that Flaherty, in short-season SS today, has any likelihood to be in the majors at 2B in April 010. But that may be a position that will not have a long-term fixture. But he'll have to be able to field it.

BA's Daily Dish (Short Season)[/url]"]Prospect Of The Day

There is just no stopping Ryan Flaherty (Cubs) these days. The Boise shortstop is scorching the ball in a week that will certainly merit Hot Sheet consideration tomorrow. He went 2-for-5 with a home run yesterday to extend his extra-base hitting streak to six games. Meanwhile, in his last six, Flaherty has seven RBIs and has struck out just three times in 27 at-bats.

Flaherty is hardly the only offensive prospect of note playing for Boise. Third baseman Josh Vitters (Cubs) went 2-for-5, while first baseman Ryan Keedy (Cubs) went 2-for-4 with a double. . .
