My guess at the six:

1. Hoffpauir

2. Dubois

3. Pie

4. K. Hill

5. Ascanio

6. Hart

I hope Ascanio comes up and pitches so lights out that Howry is left off the playoff roster.

That would be Guzman's job.

Felix Pie

Micah Hoffpauir

Koyie Hill

Angel Guzman

Michael Wuertz

Either Kevin Hart or Jose Ascanio

I don't know the status of Jon Lieber's health. I don't know whether the Cubs would consider him to be a "September call-up".

If it's gotta be 6, I'd guess

Pie

Hoff

Koyie

Lieber

Gooz

Hart

I'm sure they'd love a 3rd lefty, but Piggy's 7.00 ERA probably doesn't warrant the call up. Maybe DuBois in Hart's place, as they always talk how their big on rewarding good performances. (Not to say Hart hasn't had a good year, he has down there, but Dubois has been awesome and is a right handed bad.)

It'd be Hart over Ascanio given recent performance. I agree with the other 5, they seem like the obvious choices.

No kidding. In Hart's last 10 appearances (10.1 IP), Kevin's allowed one earned run on 3 hits and 1 walk while striking out 13. He's going great right now and has been consistently good since the end of June.

Wuertz had two rough outings the first week in August but in his last 7 appearances (8 IP), he's allowed one earned on just 3 hits. Unfortunately, he's walked 8 in that span, but he's struck out 13. If he can stay hot and improve upon the walks, he also would be a contributing September call up.

If Iowa wasn't in the playoffs, I'd want Hoffpauir called up now. With Lee injured and Ward not going great, they could use him. But he's a lock for September.

I'd love Guzman to come up as well. That would make three interesting righty arms joining the pen in September and possibly beyond. Howry hasn't turned it around yet, so one of those guys could make the playoff roster.

Pie and Hill make a lot of sense as the other call-ups. Obviously, it could be more than six. A power righty off the bench could come in handy. Jake Fox is filling that roll on the 40-man and is tearing it up in AA, but Jason Dubois is doing the same in AAA. Might we see the return of The Creature? The Cubs would have to clear a spot for him as well as Hill. It'll be interesting to see who gets the call.

Craig would probably be a better choice than Dubois. Dubois is much better against RHP and we already have plenty of LH bench bats. Craig has much better numbers against LHP.

I have read a couple places that Fox will join the team in September if he doesn't have any setbacks in his rehab.

My guess is:

Koyie Hill

Pie

Hoff

Lieber

Wuertz

Fox

Guzman

Lieber becomes the long man out of the pen and frees up Marshall to be used in more of a situational lefty role like Piniella used him earlier this season and where he was pretty successful.

Would be nice to have another lefty in the mix in case Marshall needs to move to the rotation if Marquis can't hold his spot. Eyre would be a good safety valve if they had held on to him but I get the feeling Lou really wanted him out of here (probably a work ethic issue if I had to guess since he always defends Howry's struggles by saying he is a good guy that has a positive attitude and works hard and never said the same of Erye).

If Fox and Gooz are activated is anyone left for the fake DL spot? Petrick?

Petrick, Rich Hill or Adam Harben. Or DL Lieber or Fox again late in September.

We'll see about Chad Fox, I thought he was supposed to start his rehab already.

Two names I remember from March: Jose Ceda and Randy Wells

How have they been?

Jose Ceda was alright as a starter in high-A Daytona before coming on real strong as a reliever (closer) at AA Tennessee. His big concern remains control though it's been better thus far at Tennessee. He's a top 5 prospect in the system.

Randy Wells was returned from the Blue Jays (Rule 5) early in April to AAA Iowa and was really good in May and August but struggled in April, June and July. He's had a good season overall and still could be an ok middle reliever in the big leagues.

I don't think we're going to see Ceda in September. It wouldn't be a huge surprise if he did show up, but I think his consolation prize is just going to be another invite to ST.
