The Cleveland Indians are closing in on a trade that would send third baseman/outfielder Casey Blake and cash to the Los Angeles Dodgers for two minor leaguers, according to a source with knowledge of the deal.

The teams were in the process of finalizing the deal early Saturday and it appeared the trade could be completed by the end of the day.

The Indians were believed to be receiving minor league catcher Carlos Santana and right-handed pitcher Jon Meloan.

I'm a homer considering he's from my hometown - but Casey is completely underrated IMO.

Crud. I was hoping Jim could land him for our bench. He could give ARam and Derrek a day off here and there, plus be a valuable RH PH'er off the bench.

Gotta feel pretty bad for the Indians fans at this point. This will be the 60th year of their draught, which isnt quite 100, it still sucks.

And much like the Cubs i '04-'06, they completely fall apart after coming so close, and now they're in the midst of a fire sale.`

Yeah, it has been a tough year, but, I wouldn't exactly say that we're in the midst of a fire sale.

CC had to go. We knew we weren't going to retain him after the season and we certainly aren't going to compete for anything this year. After years of John Hart and Mark Shapiro letting super-star players like Albert Belle, Manny Ramirez, and Jim Thome walk with nothing to show for it, it's nice to see some simple, smart trades.

The Indians can still re-sign Blake after the year, and both parties (Shapiro and Blake) have hinted at the fact that it might happen. So, the only 2 (major) trades that were made were just smart moves, shipping off unnecessary players for good, young prospects.

Given, with the uncertainty of Hafner and Martinez and the pending loss of Byrd, we have become a team that is focusing much more on our younger ball players. But, that doesn't mean we can't compete in the Central next year. Especially with Cliff Lee and Fausto anchoring our rotation. Realistically, we're probably 2-3 years away from any real run. Ah, the life of an Indians' fan.

What happened to Victor Martinez this year? I was just looking at his BR page and he's been brutal.

Hell of a question. I believe he was injured to start the year (hammy?), and they believe that contributed to his lack (and "lack" I mean disappearance) of power numbers. But, there were some serious trade talks involving him, so maybe there is more to it than the Indians are leading on to. I hope not, I love Victor. He's a great guy in the clubhouse, does a good job with the pitchers, and he's a really hard worker.

didn't he tweak that hammy runnings the basepaths during the first game of the season?

Yeah, you're right. I've heard that they don't believe he's been right ever since. Which is pretty sad because I really like Victor.

They got Carlos Santana? Awesome, that dude will bring in lots of fans for after game concerts.

That's right folks, it took 15 posts before a Santana (bad) joke reference. I'm disappointed in that
