Did the umps warn anyone? Castillo hit a guy in the helmet, hit another guy, and then hit a third. Were there warnings? Castillo should have been thrown out after hitting the second guy.

He hit 2 batters. Brushed the third one back and that started the whole thing. 2nd baseman Gian Guzman also collided with him and broke his leg.

Dayton hit a Chief in the top half of the first inning. Also one of Dayton's players went high spikes on Peoria's Nate Samson.

Chiefs starter Julio Castillo walked Justin Reed to start the bottom of the first and then hit Zack Cozart in the head. Cozart was down for about five minutes before leaving the game under his own power. Neftali Soto struck out and Brandon Waring hit a dribbler past Castillo. Castillo and Gian Guzman collided as all three Dragons runners were safe. Guzman was down for about 15 minutes with a left leg injury before he left the field on a stretcher. After the delay, Denis Phipps blooped one into right that Cliff Andersen lost in the sun for a two-run double as the ball landed at Andersen’s feet. Devin Mesoraco put the Dragons up 4-0 with a single back up the middle to score Waring and Phipps. Angel Cabrera was then hit by a pitch in the arm and after throwing his bat down, he started jawing at Castillo on his way to first. Kel Jones bounced into a fielders choice to second and Cabrera went in hard, spikes up, on Nate Samson. As Cabrera walked off the field, the players jawed and then Dragons manager Donnie Scott started yelling at Castillo and Samson from the third base coaches box. Chiefs Interim Manager Carmelo Martinez came out of the dugout to confront the Dragons skipper, and he and Scott had an animated discussion down the third base line. The players began jawing as well and it quickly turned into a full-blown, benches-clearing brawl. As all the players from both teams converged around the Dragons dugout, punches were thrown and players hit the ground. By time the umpires finally gained control, they handed out 15 ejections. After multiple conversations with both coaching staffs, substitutions were announced an both teams were ready to put two pitchers in the outfield. The umpires then disappeared into the clubhouse and returned 10 minutes later to announce that all of the ejections were reversed. Play resumed with Chris Siegfried on the hill for the Chiefs, 69 minutes after the brawl ended. Siegfried retired Brandon Menchaca to end the first inning at 8:53 Eastern Time after a 7:00 first pitch.

So he hit 4 people in total.

I think he hit two actually. One in the helmet that took that player out for the game, another, and wizzed another by a guy's head which started the big brawl.

For those of you wondering, no, Julio Castillo is not much of a prospect.

Even if he were, there's no reason he shouldn't be kicked off the team for that. That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen. Who in their right mind would throw a baseball at someone from 5 feet away?

I'm actually glad it hit a fan because that means more will be done to him. Just completely insane.

Assult with a deadly weapon might be an option. He better hope the fan is ok.

The fan is expected to be ok.

I still think he's got a whopper of a lawsuit against Castillo (and perhaps the Chiefs) if he chooses to pursue it.

There are signs up warning fans to beware of balls leaving the field of play... I wonder how much that'll help their defense?

I doubt it would. The warnings relate to accidents (such as foul balls being hit into the stands). I doubt they'd cover an intentional act. I'm not a lawyer so I could be wrong, but that's how it seems to me it would likely be.

The Peoria version doesn't mention that Castillo wizzed a pitch by a third guy's head. Did that happen or not?

Apparently not, MiLB.com's version meshes with Nathan and Peoria's version that the brawl started after Cabrera went spikes up on Chiefs SS Nate Samson:

Angel Cabrera, who had lifted the Dragons to a 4-3 victory with a walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth on Wednesday night, was plunked by Castillo.

An agitated Cabrera took first base and Keltavious Jones grounded into a force play, but the Chiefs took exception to Cabrera's hard slide into shortstop Nate Sampson.

Interim Peoria manager Carmelo Martinez -- filling in for Ryne Sandberg -- came out of the dugout and got into an argument with Dayton skipper, Donnie Scott, who was coaching third. Martinez and Scott appeared to make contact before Castillo fired a ball toward the Dragons dugout. The ball ricocheted into the crowd and both benches and bullpens emptied.

The brawl appeared to begin after Dragons second baseman Angel Cabrera slid into Chiefs shortstop Nathan Samson with spikes up.

Following the slide and a pitch that almost hit a Dayton player, host manager Donnie Scott and interim Chiefs manager Carmelo Martinez exchanged words. Threre was a shoving match between Scott and Martinez. Castillo reportedly threw a baseball toward the Dayton dugout, and both benches emptied.

Reportedly, there were as many as four different brawls going on at once. Hats, helmets and bats were strewn all over Fifth Third Field.

The Dayton paper makes Castillo look worse than he was by mentioning that he threw at three people, four if you include the dugout. Now pjstar agrees. The guy needs to be at the least suspended for the season and kicked off the team.

NSFW due to language. Gotta love the meathead Dayton fans!

Can't say Daytonians are the wisest bunch. Castillo just threw a 95 mph baseball point blank at someone and you cuss and flick him off as he walks 5 feet away with a baseball bat in his hand?

the ball hit a fan and sent them to the hospital. His season is over, maybe next year, maybe career.

So he hits my boy Cozart in the head with a fastball, then throws another heater at a fan??

HOLY COW!!!

That is much better video of the actual brawl. That almost brought a tear of joy to my eye to actually see a REAL baseball brawl. There must have been ten different groups of people squared off in their individual fights.

obviously the heater thrown into the stands wasn't cool, but that was an awesome fight. not your typical push and roll around on the ground while your teammates rush out to observer baseball fight, but punching, kicking, double teaming...

I particularly enjoyed the "let's play ball!" chant. I wonder if they kept it up for the next 65 minutes.

^My favorite part was while the old ladies in the stands started chanting "let's play ball," the loudest guy on the video, the one doing all the hilarious swearing, goes, "No! Let's not!"

Probably a gang fight, WHIPS vs ISoD's.

luckily one of his fellow chiefs sneakily grabbed the bat from his hand from behind. i'd hate to think what might happen if he kept the bat in his hands.
