Cubs will win the next two.

I sure hope your right because after watching the magnetized balls go to the Dbacks gloves, I think we score 4 runs combined this series so hopefully we win 2-1 and 2-1.

Anybody who says they want Derrek Lee up in a big spot is lying to himself. There are always particular clutch stats that can make him look good, but we all know that in the biggest of moments Lee rarely comes through. His AB in the 9th was a complete joke. The pitcher just walked a guy, the first baseman just made an error, the DBacks have been blowing games like crazy, all the pressure is on the pitcher, he sitting pretty with a 2-0 count on him and.... he chases a bad pitch in on his hands. Moron.

We need Alf back like now. I can't wait to read Lou's "just wasn't our night" postgame quote. I propose maybe trying something new in the lineup Lou? How bout we try this on for size..

Theriot

Fontenot

Lee

Edmonds

Ramirez

Hoffpauir

Soto

DeRosa

Only encouraging thing to say...we started the first half 1-3 too.

See you tomorrow for the homerun derby show off of Petit, the ultimate scrub.

Completely lucky win by us..you guys hit I think 7 balls to the warning track...we're f'd tomorrow if Petit tries the same stuff. GG.

Nice to be so diplomatic, but the Cubs as a team sucked it big tonight. No luck about it. We hit some balls hard, but I get the feeling the cameras made them look hit harder than they were. Im not going to make with the bottom dropping out comment, but there are now 2 teams 2 games behind us, and they're playing much better baseball.

0-1, 3.06 ERA, 11 K, 1 BB, 0.74 WHIP doesn't sound all that scrublike to me -- despite the small sample size.

God is on your side. If we try the same stuff tomorrow, the same results as tonight will occur.

God was on their side during the NLCS last year.

Our 3-4 Hitters sure are good.

Huh, they both had .869 OPS before that inning

Teams whose average is higher than that:

Cardinals (Ankiel Pujols Glaus)

Houston(Berkman Carlos Lee)

Phillies(Uttley Howard)

Brew Crew(Fielder Braun but only slightly)

Mets (Wright Beltran actually even)

And all four of those teams besides Houston are our competition for the year.

Can anybody explain to me why the D-Backs had Owings go an inning? I heard Len and Bob say a few times that they would use him only if they needed to, they didn't have any other pitcher that could go one inning?

sounds better to me. Lou needs to go off on these guys. It worked for Ozzie.

I don't want to keep telling myself that the Cubs should win the division, although with their team they should but if they miss the playoffs it is going to be terrible, thank god there is 60+ games left or something along those lines.

It doesn't help that the one clutch hitter is mired in a slump so bad that he would strike out in tee-ball.

The bullpen is seriously depleted.

Our options for late in the game:

-Lyon has thrown 3 nights in a row, and almost blew two saves, but only blew 1, and his ERA shot up 100 points over the weekend.

-Pena has struggled and pitched Friday and Saturday.

-Qualls has a bad back, so him throwing two was out of question, plus he sucks, so all they wanted was the save out of him.

welcome to the cubs rich harden. the best 0-1 pitcher in baseball history.

you KNOW some brewer fan commentator is going to go, "sure the Cubs got Harden but he's 0-1..."

But in the end, he's stuck in Milwaukee.

And who cares what an idiot in Milwaukee says?

Heheh.

Your right about that, and D Lee has been doing that all year. Most especially on the road. He has no plate discipline, and won't take a walk these days. Aramis won't either. What happen to taking it on the ground to right field..? These last few games on the road, those guys are killing us. Rally killers is all I can say..

I really really despise the Cubs offense since the break, its really embarrassingly horrible

That and the fact that our starters are giving us such quality innings is breaking my heart

WTF has happened to Derrek Lee? It's like he's guessing out there. He had his mind made up that he was going to swing at that 2-0 pitch, no matter what. The team has also lost it's patience. I'm very, very worried. This team simply can't win on the road.

Derrek Lee in 2008:

2 outs, RISP .259/.355/.296 (31 plate appearances)

Late & Close .292/.365/.523 (74 PA)

Tie Game .283/.355/.520 (141 PA)

Within 1 Run .306/.380/.537 (245 PA)

Within 2 Runs .308/.373/.533 (324 PA)

Within 3 Runs .309/.371/.538 (362)

Home .290/.340/.544

Away .311/.387/.451

I'm not claiming he's been a world-beater, but he hasn't been nearly as bad as either of you are making him out to be.
