Because it was a shitty call and the ump knew it. Generally umps are more inclined to allow that sort of thing when they know they screw up. I knew that I would when I was umpiring.

That strike 3 was so bad, when I saw the pitch land in Soto's glove, I turned my head away from the TV towards my computer screen assuming that he walked and it was 3-1. Then I heard yell "GOT HIM!!" and jerked my head back towards the TV.

It might have been your initial reaction before seeing the replay, so I'm sorry if it was. But I didn't see anything wrong with what Theriot did there. He threw it to the only base he possibly had a play at, and where his teammate was pointing.

 

Yeah initial reaction. And I guess Pence is quick so its doubtful we get the out at first

 

Theriot has to charge that ball more. He's very good at getting outs on balls he gets to, with that exception. He waits on high hoppers too much.
