The second round of bids is due on Dec. 1, DuPuy said, and any buyer must be approved by 75 percent of baseball teams. Sam Zell's Tribune Co. is selling the franchise to help pay down $11.8 billion in debt.

Bidders include Tom Ricketts, the chairman of Incapital LLC whose father founded TD Ameritrade Holding Corp; Michael Tokarz of MVC Capital Inc.; Leo Hindery, managing partner of Intermedia Partners; and Hersch Klaff, a real-estate executive.

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban also submitted a proposal to buy the Cubs, Wrigley Field and a 25 percent stake in a sports network. Cuban was accused two days ago by U.S. securities regulators of making illegal trades in an Internet search company. Cuban denied the charges.

Seriously? Gee this is news to me....NOT!

If your goal is for members of this board to take you seriously, I'm thinking this isn't the best way for that to happen.

Did you predict that Cuban would be accused of insider trading and that it would derail whatever hope he had of being in the mix for the Cubs ownership? What exactly are you bragging about here?

It's nice to be important, but it's more important not to get caught doing insider trading!!!

yeah you've got the wrong poster with that one.

Like there's ever a wrong time to bring that up.

At least three prospective buyers have submitted a new round of bids to Tribune Co. for the Chicago Cubs, one of professional sports' trophy franchises.

Chicago real estate investor Hersch Klaff, the Ricketts family, founder of online brokerage TD Ameritrade Holding Corp., and a group led by Marc Utay, a New York private equity investor, delivered their proposals by the Thanksgiving deadline, according to sources involved in the negotiations.

Sources declined to comment on the size of the three bids, which include the team, Wrigley Field and Tribune's 25-percent stake in Comcast SportsNet, a regional cable sports network.

It was unknown at the time this report was filed whether two other prospective buyers -- Houston businessman Jim Crane and Mark Cuban, owner of the Dallas Mavericks basketball team -- had submitted new bids.

So do any of these groups give a Howry about the Cubs winning a WS?

Well, Ricketts is a Cubs fan. So hopefully that means something. He recently met with Steve Stone to get some feedback I'm told.

I'm glad that a potential Cubs owner is consulting a White Sox announcer. That's helpful.

I'm pulling for Ricketts personally. His family has very deep pockets, he's relatively young(I think) and he met his wife at Wrigley. Don't know about any of the other groups, but I'd think this guy would want to build a winner anyway......

Say what you want about Stone but although he's a White Sox announcer, he's a Chicago baseball guy. Wasn't Steve Stone interested in buying the Cubs at one point?

Yeah, I just don't want Stone in any decision making capacity for this team.

To get it out of the way early, Steve Stone loved Neifi Perez, and thought the Maddux for Izturis trade was a stroke of genius. Also wanted to trade Aramis for Izturis.

He'd better get KW's ear before the O's sign him then.

Yeah, I find it odd. This Stoen thing. However, Stone is respected for his "insight" on the Cubs situation with these guys. It seems every local potential owner knows Stone well. Canning,Weisbach, Marovitz,Ricketts,Kleff,Melman,Levy, etc.

Also, he wanted a consulting-type position. Not going to happen now that he took the Sox job.
