They are only 4.5 back, and though I believe we can expand that to 6 or 8 games middle of August, I still don't want them upgrading OF. Ankiel, Ludwick, Schumaker, and Bay in the OF, and maybe sometimes Duncan.

he A's are talking with the Pirates about Jason Bay, but a deal is unlikely, according to FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal.

 

While the A's are intrigued, they're probably not going to give up the kind of prospects it'd take to land Bay, who is a free agent after 2009. The Pirates would likely demand at least one of Oakland's top pitching prospects, either Trevor Cahill or Gio Gonzalez, and a couple of young bats. The Diamondbacks and Cardinals are also believed to be after Bay.
