Now that we have Gaudin and Harden would you guys give up Hill or Pie for Milton Bradley?

In a heartbeat.

i don't know about milton anymore...

i didn't know that he was as hobbled as he is this season...i didn't know that he has been starting as a DH a lot...

personally, i am really not that big of a fan of kosuke in center...

And then who takes right? Considering Im all alone in thinking Micah Hoffpauir, wed need another trade anyway.

what are you on about?

our outfield is

LF - Soriano

CF - Edmond/Johnson

RF - Fukudome

?

unless we are getting bradley for the bench and DH...i doubt we would do that...but maybe...i would be down for that move

Laurence Holmes just intimated that he's heard that the Cubs may still try to add Erik Bedard. (That would be a lot of Canadians in one rotation) Anyway, he's on a one year deal and probably could be brought in for a little more than Harden costed. If he comes back solid after the break would you consider adding him?

Zambrano

Harden

Dempster

Lilly

Bedard

That would be pretty impressive. You could definitely parlay the injury risk on both pitchers with such a move. What are the odds that both got hurt??

That would be amazing...and I'm sure that Bedard would at least be ahead of Lilly in the rotation as well. However, I'd imagine that the M's would want a hefty price considering all they had to give up to get him. Burnett might be a cheaper option.

Here's the thing though: the M's are pretty peeved at his pitch count comments and are trying to rebuild Bavasi's mess as soon as possible. I can't possibly see them letting him go for a compensatory pick with the kind of rebuilding they need to do while Ichiro is still young enough.

EDIT: Bedard's only on the books as a rental for the remainder of this year and Burnett is owed like $30MM-ish.

I posted this in the Harden thread, but last night it was reported by The Score that the Cubs and M's had been in preliminary discussions for Bedard, although no formal offer had been made. The Mariners were asking for Gallager, Murton, Patterson, and Pie.

For the year (72 games):

.315 .441 .596 1.037

As a rightie vs. righties (5 AB's):

.400 .400 1.000 1.400

As a rightie vs. lefties (171 AB's):

.304 .423 .538 .961

As a leftie vs. righties (84 A's):

.333 .477 .690 1.168

His OPS has just been increasing with each full month:

.912

1.036

1.213

I'll happily move Kosuke to CF part time (where his production looks much better) to get Bradley's production from RF part time.

That was a brain fart. I totally misread your post. I thought you said you WERE a big fan of Kosuke to center.

I remember reading somewhere earlier in the year that Vernon Wells was a possible player the Cubs might look into for to play centerfield. Given Edmonds' and Johnson's nagging injuries, would it make sense for the Cubs to look into acquiring Wells & Burnett via trade? Edmonds would then be the lefty power bat off the bench and get spot playing time along with Johnson. Burnett would be the final piece in the rotation we've seen rumored interest in. Payroll would obviously be the major consideration here. I don't think the Cubs would have to give up too much in terms of players given the payroll they'd be adding. I am just spitballin' with no real idea of Wells' contract situation is.

Wells has a horrible contract. I would want no part of him.

Wells has 6 more years and 117 million dollars left after this year.

Burnett could have 24 more.

I don't think there's any way they could authorize anywhere near that much payroll. Wells might not even be an upgrade over Edmonds/Johnson (his numbers the last year and a half have been pretty bad) and currently has one of the worst contracts in the league.

In addition, I can't see another starter being added unless the Cubs also found a taker for Marquis. Plus, there isn't nearly as much upside in adding another starter as there was before.

Edit: Sorry to be so late. Didn't want to pile on..got distracted in the middle of the post.

I agreed to a point. If Harden shows he will be healthy, in the next 3 weeks, then another stater won't be necessarily (and I would be confident that Marquis/Marshall/Lieber/Geaux Dan would get the job done as #5), but if Harden shows a little wear and tear (which is possible), then you could see the Cubs make a trade for another starter.

I still say try to see what Colorado wants for Aaron Cook. There don't seem to be nearly as many questions surrounding his durability as there would be with Burnett or Bedard, and he isn't as crappy as Wolf or Maddux.

If that is the case, then the Cubs could see about Cook, but also see about Brian Fuentes and Ryan Spilborghs. The Rockies could help the Cubs fill some serious needs in one trade.

Colorado has flat out said they aren't trading Cook. He just signed an extension this past offseason, and they consider him a major part of their future.

Oh.

Well, forget that, then. Inquire about Holliday and Fuentes, then.

Spilborghs got hurt in Milwaukee last night and is headed for the DL

Hairston, or Blake would still be viable RH threats off the bench.

Well dang, after the last few posts detailing Cook's situation and Spilborghs' injury I guess my mega trade involving Holliday/Fuentes/Cook/Spilborghs for every asset we have not on the 25 man roster is dashed. :(
