Maybe Z is a bigger name and they want the big name to start. But the start should go to Volquez.

Maybe they don't want a rookie catcher and rookie pitcher as starters.

Volquez isn't a rookie. Had about 79IP spread out between 2005-2007 with Texas.

Maybe they want Soto and Zambrano together because they are both on the same page.

Aye. Battery mates.

Although thats now even funnier b/c, assuming Sori is back, the Cubs will have 4 starters.

God, you can strike me down after the first pitch is thrown if the Cubs have 4 ASG starters.

Heck, with that many starters I might actually pay attention to the game this year.

they were saying this morning on the score that sori decided not to start the game because his hand was 'barking' at him after taking bp in st louis

Imagine if this is true and then Chipper can't start

Soto, Z, Ramirez, Fukudome, and Soriano would all be starters

Haha

Soriano won't start.

I'd rather Sori not play at all and just take those days to rest. I mean, I am happy he won that spot, but we need him now more than ever healthy.

Just saw this earlier today: http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080707&content_id=3085689&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc

According to Muskat, anyway:

He might be back for the first series after the break at Houston, July 18-20. Soriano was elected to the starting lineup for the National League All-Star team, and said Sunday he was thinking about attending the festivities, but will not play.

I had not seen this elsewhere, but forgot about it until I saw your post above. I am sure it's a big deal for him being selected to start at Yankee Stadium, but I am glad he is not rushing back to play in the game. Rest up and get healthy for a big push down the stretch.

So this is definitely not true, yeah? I mean, no starter has been selected. I'll say one thing, if Hurdle is more apt to go with a veteran as opposed to a young guy like Lincecum or Volquez, than Z has definitely been better than Webb this year. I still think there's a decent chance Z ends up starting the game anyway, even though Yahoo looks to have jumped the gun.

z said in the post-game interview yesterday that he'd be honored if he were to be asked, he obviously hadn't heard anything about who is starting the all-star game.

I would enjoy no Cubs playing in this game honestly. Especially the pitchers.

The outcome of this game is actually pretty important to us this year.

Why in the hell are Soto and Fukudome batting in the last two spots? Especially over Matt Holliday? I know Holliday is better, but the Cubs guys were elected by the fans.

I realize this doesn't really matter at all, but there is no way they get more than 1 at bat batting that low.
