According to the New York Post

http://blogs.jsonline.com/brewers/archive/2008/07/05/braun-not-an-all-star-starter.aspx

Braun not a starter: Despite a hard push from the Milwaukee Brewers, Ryan Braun did not receive enough votes to be a starter in next week's All-Star Game in New York, according to the New York Post, which broke the news on its website just before Saturday's game.

Major League Baseball will announce the starters today.

Braun, who had monitored the vote count himself, had been in a race to catch Chicago Cubs outfielders Alfonso Soriano and Kosuke Fukudome as well as Cincinnati Reds rightfielder Ken Griffey Jr. Starters are determined by fan votes.

According to the Post, these are the National League vote winners and starters: Catcher Geovany Soto, Cubs; first baseman Lance Berkman, Astros; second baseman Chase Utley, Phillies; shortstop Hanley Ramirez, Marlins; third baseman Chipper Jones, Braves; outfielders Soriano, Fukudome and Griffey Jr. and the Diamondbacks Brandon Webb is the starting pitcher.

In the American League: Catcher Joe Mauer, Twins; first baseman Kevin Youkilis, Red Sox; second baseman Dustin Pedroia, Red Sox; shortstop Derek Jeter, Yankees; third baseman Alex Rodriguez, Yankees; outfielders Ichiro Suzuki, Mariners; Josh Hamilton, Rangers and Manny Ramirez, Red Sox and the starting pitcher will be Cliff Lee of the Indians.

(Just thought I would make a separate thread for this)

Nobody really knows who the starting pitchers are; that can't be anything more than speculation. Pitchers aren't selected by the fans, so it won't be known until the announcement tomorrow who the pitchers will be.

If they do somehow know who the starting pitchers are for both leagues, and are as listed, Hurdle is off his fricking rocker if he starts Webb.

Webb has been getting shellacked recently.

if lou is managing the game, i say that wellemeyer or lohse should start and throw at least 150 pitches.

Why would Lou be managing the game?

With an OF of Braun, Fukudome, and Soriano...who plays out of position?

My guess is Fuku. They won't put Fonzie in center if he was just injured and Braun's not fast enough.

You figure Braun is probably chained to left field, so my guess is Fukudome in center and Sori moves to right.

You would think that Soriano would get to keep his position, since he got more votes than the others. Move Braun to RF and have Kosuke play CF.

Braun in right field would be uglier than one of Gracie's slumpbusters.

I see the NY Post was caught passing off guesswork as fact again.

Big suprise there. Why does anyone even read that rag? It's on the same level as the National Enquirer.

If Braun is in the field, he's already out of position (ba-dum-psh!)

Lou isn't managing the game; Clint Hurdle of Colorado is (Lou is a coach). The manager of the previous year's league champion is automatically manager. So Lou will be manager NEXT year, but not this year. :D
