Damn. How did Hill go from quality major leaguer to a guy who can't get guys out in Mesa? That's unfathomable.

As muc as I've heard, "Its just all in his head and mechanical issues" I really just can't believe this. There almost MUST be a physical problem.

just like there was for steve blass and rick ankiel?

ankiel was like throw-to-the-backstop wild. when i saw hill in iowa he was like 50% strikes and he wasn't bouncing pitches, throwing it over the catcher's head, etc. ankiel was much worse off than that, if i remember. though hill's last few outings seem to be veering closer to ankiel territory.

i know, i'm just saying that the idea of it MUST be something physical is absurd. i think the chances are highly in favor of it just being something mental, especially given hill's past control issues.

obviously something is not working right now, and he probably should only be pitching in simulated games until he can take the mound and be adequate.

Pie with a triumphant return to Iowa. He has a walk, a home run, and an RBI single through 4 innings.

Iowa's up 5-0 in the bottom of the 4th. Bases loaded, nobody out for Hoffpauir right now, so they could be adding to that.

Hart had a line of:

3 2/3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 4 K

Was he on a strict pitch count? Seems rather strange to remove him after the first two guys get out in the inning.

Probably, given that he was on 3 days rest.

Ceda continues his dominance out of the Tennessee bullpen with a perfect 1 1/3 innings getting the save with 2 strikeouts. So far for Tennessee: 10 IP, 7 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 17 K.

I think his time as a starter is officially over.

Daytona to the 10th, Hung-Wen Chen had a sexy K/BB in his high-A debut: 6 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 9 K/0 BB.

Mitch Atkins also racked up some Ks for Tennessee: 7 IP, 8 H, 3 ER, 8 K/0 BB.

Kreier pulled after 3.2 scoreless for Peoria, despite retiring the first 2 batters in the 4th. Not sure if it was an injury or what.

Back better than arm injury, hope it's not too serious:

Kreier went back to the mound with a four run lead and racked up two quick outs to start the bottom of the fourth. But after striking out Joe White, Kreier grabbed his lower back and called out this Chiefs coaches and trainer Kelly Vanhove. After a few minutes of discussion and a couple of warmup pitchers, Kreier left the game with an injury and was replaced by lefty Zach Ashwood. - PeoriaChiefs.com

I'm sure the next guy to pitch for Mesa today will have a 1.08 ERA:

MiLB corrected Hill's line to 3 ER (probably a mercy call to get his ERA below 100)

I updated game 2 of the DSL Cubs 2 doubleheader.

Daytona News-Journal[/url]"]Chen, a 22-year-old from Keelung City, Taiwan, tossed six innings and allowed three runs while striking out a career-high nine batters.

Aided by three Cubs home runs, Chen made himself right at home and showed no signs of jet-lag; he arrived in town just two hours before game time.

"We don't know how long we'll have him, because he's going to pitch for the (Taiwan) national team, but he was really good tonight," Davis said. "He mixed his pitches and kept ahead of the hitters."

Tuesday, Chen showed that his best pitch clearly is his changeup, which kept the Mets' hitters off-balance most of the night. Like fellow Taiwanese import Chien Ming-Wang, Chen isn't a big strikeout pitcher, but Tuesday night he racked them up early, fanning five Mets in the first three innings.
