Richie Sexson-1B-Mariners Jun. 18 - 12:19 pm et

The Daily Herald reports that the Mariners will release Richie Sexson within the next few days.

Interim GM Lee Pelekoudas held meetings with club executives on Tuesday to discuss the final 3 1/2 months of the season, and according to one person familiar with the planned moves, Sexson will be let go within days. He's making $14 million in the final year of his four-year, $50 million deal.

Not that hes been any good the past few years, and not that we have any use for him whatsoever, but its a slow news day.

He likely will be offered a job with a team he will start on and the Cubs have absolutely no need our bench is already packed with guys who do well in pinch hit scenarios.

We should grab him for our bench. That would be awesome.

That would only be awesome if he returned to his younger years. The Cubs don't really need a sub .300 OBP, 85 OPS+ backup 1B on the roster.

He's absolutely killed left handed pitching this year. Someone in need of a bench bat should pick him up. A right handed Russell Branyan, as it were.

Seems fluky though, doesn't it? No huge splits his last couple years other than this one.

I dunno, I like the idea of a RH PH'er who with major pop coming off the bench in the 7th to face tough LH relievers. It would be a nice luxury, that is unless his bat has slowed to the point that he cannot hit a ML fastball anymore.
