Like last year, for instance.

Illinois probably has the toughest finishing stretch of any Big Ten team for the last 5 games: PSU twice, at OSU, and home vs. Minn and MSU. However, they actually now control their own destiny to the Big Ten title and 1 seed if they win out. First step is tonight, so I really hope they come ready to play.

PSU also won in Champaign against one of the Williams/Head/Brown teams

In the "things that likely only interest me" category...the media had their third annual mock selection committee last week, and developed this bracket.

The whole process was live-blogged last year. Describes the entire selection process, from start to finish. I found it really interesting.

Nope, that was just a Brown/Augustine team. It was the year after the national runner up team. That was the game McBride hit the game winner a little less than .1 seconds too late.

That game cost us a shared Big Ten title, and at least a 3 seed.(We got hosed as it was, but that had to be what the committee looked back on.)

That was in 2006. No Williams/Head/Powell, but Brown and Augustine were still there and that was at least as good a team as this one is this year.

I really don't like seeing pods where Mizzou is the highest seed and their second round matchup would be in Boise against a west coast team. Stupid OU and Memphis are going to make it impossible for them to play in KC.

ah, okay, so the year after the NC appearance. Either way, it was an upset

Look at those mischievous devils setting up an Illinois vs. Kansas second round game

I think that unless a couple Pac-10 teams really make a run late, or they really overseed Gonzaga, there's undoubtedly going to be some midwestern/eastern team that will be the highest seed out in Boise/Portland. And, of course, it makes the most sense to screw over the 4 seeds, because the higher seeds deserve "better" protection.

Still think UCLA and Washington will squeeze into 4 seed slots by the end of the year. Also figuring Illinois will be one of the teams "fortunate" enough to get shoved into one of those pods.

I don't think UCLA would have much of a home court advantage in Boise. Portland would be another story.

Of course we all know what happened the

Not quite to the same level. Deron Williams was kinda the best of that bunch. Luther was the second best. If those two weren't there it isn't near the upset.

it was an upset based on the fact that it was at Champaign, and PSU sucked. A win by PSU this year would be far less of an upset, though I'm not counting on it. The regular season finale in State College will probably be closer.

I really don't think that it would be an upset if you beat us at home. You have a pretty good team regardless of what Tim Doyle said.

According to multiple sources, Renardo Sidney will be announcing UCLA on Sunday despite no open scholarships for next season. :|

I'm guessing UCLA knows that either Jrue will turn pro or Nikola Dragovic will turn pro in Europe, but it seems strange. Apparently Kevin Love was instrumental in changing Sidney's "attitude" and getting him interested in UCLA, whatever that means.

Oh come on, it would definitely be an upset for PSU to win. We're a better team and are at home in the Big Ten. I'd be very disappointed with a loss.

yep. You're talking Pomeroy's #21 at home against #76. It would be an upset.

No offense to PSU fans, but this game tonight is the most winnable game Illinois has left, and I'd be extremely disappointed if they didn't win tonight.

PSU has, incidentally, won the last 2 games between the teams in Champaign.

If Dan Guerrero (UCLA's AD) wants to replace Myles Brand one day, I don't think that's the case.

Sidney was always interested in UCLA, Howland never reciprocated until about a year ago.

Good read. It seems they like to go overboard with the conference tournament upsets in these though. When Cornell is getting an 11 seed this year you've probably gone too far.

Yeah, they picked UC Riverside to make it out of the Big West and they're between the fourth and sixth best team in the conference.

A couple of the rules the committee had from that process that I didn't know about before:

- The top 3 teams in each conference can't play each other until the Final Four.

- The play-in game cannot be between two traditionally black colleges (this one seems weird to me)

I really like the break-neck pace of all the "vote eight"s. Wonder if I can duplicate that online this year.
