I hate the Boston Celtics, they killed the next UK dynasty.

Tony Delk's not walking through that door. Jamal Mashburn isn't walking through that door. Rodrick Rhodes isn't walking through that door.

Smith couldn't recruit the ones replacing them. It ain't luck that the 3 consecutive years that UK went to the title game (96'-98') winning two of them were Pitino teams and that Smith didn't do anything with his classes for the decade he was here.

You're lying to yourself if you don't think Pitino leaving UK when he did and then hiring Tubby completely stalled what they were doing.

Never heard the Pitino Celtics sound clip?

Trust me, I'm as unhappy with Pitino leaving Kentucky when he did as you are.

Regarding Smith's classes, he wasn't bringing in a bunch of studs, but his classes get slammed more than he deserves. Rivals only goes back to '02, so I can only see that far back. '02 and '06 are good classes and '04 was a phenomenal classes. He wasn't Thad Matta, but he wasn't out there making the tourney with 3 stars.

No, I wanted nothing to do with Pitino for several years. '04 was the only great class, the rest were not up to UK standards or the same standards that Pitino set. I'm not expecting the 96' Cats (by far the most talented team in college history) but I expect better than what they under Smith and so far under Gillespie.

Smith ain't good enough for UK and Gillespie still has to prove that he is and I liked the hire at the time.

Kentucky standards are 3 Five stars per class? Kentucky standards were also built on rampant cheating(Pre-Pitino).

It's asking a lot of any coach to consistently bring in top classes without bending/breaking the rules. You take the upswings when your area's HS teams are full of prospects and you try and build off of that. You get in early on some prospects you see big things from. You don't just walk into a gym say "I'm from Kentucky" and watch the recruits swoon. Indiana is learning that same thing right now.

Pitino recruited top classes and didn't cheat, UK standards are much higher than what Tubby delivered as well as what Gillespie has delivered so far 9although, he has plenty of time to improve). There is no reason why UK should not produce top 10 recruiting classes every year.

Lol. Yeah those cats were the best team in college history. They weren't even the best team that decade. UNLV.

And as far as talented UCLA had Swen Nater just sitting on the bench behind Bill Walton. He then gets to the NBA and leads the league in rebounding.

Not at all.

9 players on that squad played in the NBA.

6 1st rounders.

Now dispute it.

i see ping is a little more hyperbolic than usual.

Maybe a little bit, but that '96 team is still the most talented team of all-time. you could make a valid case for the Tar Heels of the early 80s obviously.

they were certainly one of the deepest teams, no doubt. i wouldn't necessarily say the most talented.

You take a team with players drafted at Nos. 6, 6, 13, 16, 19, 29 and 52; I'll take a team that had players drafted Nos. 1, 2, 3, 11, 14, and 18. Oh, did I mention that the No. 1 pick was someone named Lew Alcindor? I only needed to look up one team to dispute it.

I must also wonder how 1996 Kentucky, being the most talented ever, lost two games and failed to win the SEC Tournament.

I understand UK fans frustrations with Tubby given he only made 1 FF in 9 years as coach, however the man put UK in the Sweet Sixteen six times, the Elite Eight four times, and won the SEC and SEC tournament five times each, made the NCAA tournament every year, and never lost in the first round.

Any fanbase that complains about that kind of success is simply delusional. Gone are the days when Rupp and Sutton could go out a buy whatever player they wanted and put them in a cushy athletes dorm that was more like a Hilton. I'm curious what exactly do UK fans expect both in recruiting and performance, because I'm almost positive that BG isn't the man to bring you there.

I would take any of Alcindor's teams at UCLA as more talented simply because they had the greatest player in college of all time.

Plus the UNC team with James Worthy, Michael Jordan, Kenny Smith, and Sam Perkins. You know guys who did something once they got to the pros. How many of the UK guys were worth a crap in the pros? Walker was probably the best, he doesn't really compare in the talent department to these other guys.

Cause they lost to 2 final four teams that they ended up beating with Miss. St. and UMASS . In fact, that 96 team has the highest sagarin rating dating back to the UCLA days.

That was kind of cruel not letting Raisin make this post.
