This is absolutely the luckiest team I've ever seen. Give me a freaking break.

I know. It's not like they've lost their Ace, starting catcher and the best hitter in baseball all in the span of a week. Super Lucky!

Yet they're still winning. That's the point. Today was another game that they had absolutely no business winning and had it handed to them. "Here, have a win"

If the Phillies had won would you have said the same thing?

no, because the phillies didn't have 4 LOB versus 15 for their opponent

I'm like 80% sure the Cardinals wont lose another game the rest of the season.

Which will have them in the WC four games out of first.

The cardinals are playing very well, thankfully so are the Cubs.

Keep it in perspective though, we aren't even at the halfway point in the 2008 season. Tons of baseball left and a little early to get overly excited about the standings or to scoreboard watch.

The Cubs will be fine.

No? Why would I? Look at how many baserunners each team had.

I guess you could also look at errors and extra base hits.

Phillies- 21 baserunners

Cardinals- 10 baserunners

It's okay to admit that the Cardinals stole a game.

It's ok to admit that the amount of baserunners isn't the only thing that matters. The Phillies played sloppy and the Cards hit homeruns.

sorry that cub fans won't join you in giving the cards a collective reacharound.

If that means that they're playing well through 2 weeks away from halfway (despite alot of injuries) & likely equating to them being a good team, then put me in the circle.

There comes a point when sample sizes and pre-season predictions become diminished and likely to be wrong. If them sticking around and cont'g to play well despite injuries leads to question "how do they still win?", that probably means that they are a good team.

Utley's not likely to hand another game to a team for the rest of his career on two poor throws in one extra inning (yes, the 2nd one was an error charged to Gordon but was still a poor throw behind him).

The Cards got lucky, plain and simple.

It really doesn't matter if yo consider them to be "lucky" or not, they are winning. Reading the constant whines and gripes about the luckiness of the Cardinals and theyre so called magic dust is really getting old. Teams overacheive and underachieve all the time, not everything works out to fit the "projections." I have been impressed with how they have played. They have had plenty of injuries and fair share of bad luck as well.

The Cubs are in the midst of playing some of their best baseball in years. Enjoy that, who cares what everyone else is doing right now. It would be one thing if the Cubs were struggling along and trailing St. Louis, but theyre not. The Cubs control their fate form here on out and with how they have played the first two months it shouldn't matter at this point how big the division lead is.

The "luck" argument reminds me of grade school.

The Cards are overachieving to stay up with the Cubs. So I wouldn't nec...call them a good team. I do believe their lack of depth will eventually catch up with them, cause the Cubs show no signs of slowing down.

The Cubs are in front of the Cards, and IMO, I doubt the Cards see 1st place again this yr. I'm not trying to get ahead of myself, but I don't see the Cards passing the Cubs again this yr. IMO, the only time the Cubs (and us fans) should worry about the Cards, is when the Cubs and the Cards play. Otherwise, it's not worth worrying over a team, not as good as the Cubs,

Haha unreal with the Cardinals winning again, my suggestion would be to stock up your fantasy team will Cardinals and when they pull all-star performances out of their asses, it's somewhat a win-win. I have already done this with Kyle Lohse. The Cards will probably score 2 runs in the entire series with KC and still sweep them.

No problem, your hands are obviously full with the Phillies.

From La Russa:

"We caught a break," La Russa said. "We've had it happen where the baseball gods kicked us, but today they kicked the Phillies."

So if TLR can admit it, why can't you?

If it was July or August you might have a point, but it's mid-June. MLB history is littered with teams who overachieved for 3-4 months and then faded down the stretch. The Reds have done it multiple times in this decade alone.

You're right and it's just as likely that a less favored team will con't to play well and compete or maybe sneak in and win the division.

Look at the Cubs of '01, & '03 as far as teams not expected to compete but hung around to win 88 wins and one division title.

I don't remember anyone saying they aren't enjoying the Cubs winning. If you don't like reading what someone is posting, then don't read it.

How do you know what you don't like reading, if you don't read it?

I agree w/Bruno w/the frustration as far as people chalking up the Cards playing well to luck rather than a team that no one counted on playing well that might be a good team playing well. This also correlates to Cards players doing well and some sort of pixie dust as the reason, rather than that/those player(s) making strides (whether it be something long-term or short-term).

Thanks for the advice, but it was just my observation.

I am shocked about how much attention is being placed on the standings and division lead and were still 4 weeks from the ASB.

Come on, you pretty much know there's going to be a bunch of whining about the Cards in the 'other games' thread after they have a big comeback win based on a couple errors by the other team. Nobody's that naive.

I agree with bruno on this though: scoreboard/standings watching in mid June isn't going to serve much purpose. Things can and probably will drastically change in one way or the other by the time we get to September.

That doesn't mean I can't comment on it nor feel that some would rather chalk it up to something other than the Cards playing well.
