I think they lose this game and Philly sweeps them this weekend.

Random observation:

The Cards have the 4th-best record in the majors.

They would be in 1st in the AL Central, NL East, and NL West.

That's the thing. If the Cubs just keep playing pretty good baseball, then for the Cardinals to keep up with them will mean that St. Louis will build a huge lead in the WC. There's only 2 teams that are less than 7 games out of the Cardinals right now, and 1 of those is closer to their division lead than they are to St. Louis.

That's why I'm not too worried about what the Cardinals do. If the Cubs just play somewhat well over the next 3 1/2 months (for example, 5 games over .500) that would leave them with 93 wins overall. I don't see how the Cardinals and another WC team pass them if the Cubs end up anywhere near that record.

Rooting for a Dusty Baker offense is bringing back all sorts of painful memories. Seeing Patterson leading off yet again is almost too much to take.

Haha, Thom is talking about how pathetic the approach of the Reds' hitters has been this season and how poor the situaional hitting is. Hmm, I wonder why.

They will score!

Was that a squeeze?

Top of the order due up for STL next inning. That means a 3-run homer for either Ludwick or Ankiel is about the most predictable thing ever.

Looking at this lineup, it's amazing that they're winning as much as they are. It drives me nuts:

Cards

Schumaker LF - scrub

Miles 2B - scrub

Ludwick RF - should-be scrub

Ankiel CF - decent

Glaus 3B - washed up

Duncan 1B - scrub

Molina C - scrub

Pineiro P - scrub

Izturis SS - terrible

Urgh.
