Baseball America has a new mock draft up does anybody know who it has us taking?

Brett Jackson, sadly. They had gone with Pollock the last two times (who now goes 26 to the Brewers).

31. CUBS. Chicago would pay to sign Turner if he could drop all the way down here, but he's not getting past both the Red Sox and Yankees. The Cubs will have to hope someone in a group that includes Arnett, Pollock, James, Gould and Jackson makes it to them, and at least one of them should.

Projected Pick: BRETT JACKSON.

Callis seems to think Tate and Scheppers might fall too:

• Georgia high school outfielder Donavan Tate and St. Paul Saints (American Association) righthander Tanner Scheppers are two top-10 talents who aren't being linked to many teams. Tate is the best athlete in the draft, but he reportedly has a $6 million asking price and several clubs aren't sold on his bat. Scheppers has shown power stuff but many teams have lingering concerns about his shoulder problems from a year ago.

If Donovan Tate somehow falls to us will we pick him? I kind of want us taking rich poythress because i think he is a safe bet to make it to the majors.

In addition, Notre Dame outfielder A. J. Pollock, who is at Fitch Park working out for Cubs scouts, hit 4th in each of the first four innings, and then led-off innings 5-6-7-8-9. He got "only" eight Plate Appearances, though, because Ryan Freel was picked-off 1st base with Pollock at bat in the bottom of the 3rd.

1 for 6 (a single) with 2 walks, a run scored, and a SB. He also struck out twice.

Pollock is REALLY fast, he has a nice line-drive stroke, and he's very patient at the plate (he drew two walks and was called-out on strikes twice). He also misplayed a fly ball in CF into a gift-double, and miscalulated the caroom on a ball hit off the batter's eye (Green Monster) in CF, forcing RF Sean Williams to retrieve the ball But generally speaking, he looked like a possible 1st round pick.

I would like to see Tate, if for no other reason than he could be the best value left, signability issues aside. If we take a Poythress type, I'm fine with that too. I think he could be a real nice hitter, but he also scared me because he really can't do much besides hit.

Also of note:

Tomorrow's Extended Spring Training game at the A's camp at the Papago Baseball Complex in Phoenix has been canceled because the Cubs want to have a closed "Camp Day" work-out for potential draft picks for their scouts at Fitch Park.

From the very, very, very little i've seen of Tate, I wasn't too crazy about what I saw. But still, if he's there, I probably go with him from a pure value point.

Kyle Gibson has a stress fracture: http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/draft/?p=959

Not sure what the fall out is but I can't see him going in the top 10 anymore.

Missouri righthander Kyle Gibson, the No. 4 prospect on BA’s Top 200 Draft Prospects list, has a stress fracture in his right forearm and will be shut down for six weeks. This obviously will affect him in Tuesday’s draft, when he was projected to go in the top half of the first round.

Gibson last pitched on May 30 against Monmouth in the NCAA regionals. Though he pitched eight shutout innings for the victory, his fastball sat at 83-86 mph. After the game he spoke of having forearm tightness, which often is a precursor to torn elbow ligaments and Tommy John surgery.

The recovery time for the stress fracture should be much quicker than it would have been for reconstructive elbow surgery. Gibson should be able to throw for the team that drafts him before the Aug. 15 signing deadline.

Kevin Goldstein at BP:

You might want to drop Gibson, as Jim Callis breaks the story that Gibson's 'forearm tightness' is now a stress fracture. I'm currently baffled into how big of a drop that turns into.

If it's a stress fracture, I sure as heck hope the Cubs take him. That's way, way better than any muscle/ligament/tendon damage.

John Sickels is running another mock today. Guess who the Cubs picked?

Yup, AJ Pollack again.

The guy who was supposed to draft for the Cubs never showed up. Sickels picked for them.

I can live with Brett Jackson

+1

He's got a nice profile and the only thing I don't like is that his body seems fairly filled out. Otherwise he seems like a guy who can become a starter in CF.

I hope it's neither of Pollock or Arnett.

Chad James would be sweet.

i'd rather have pollock than jackson. i don't want a guy who struck out 61 times in 53 games this season.

trout would be a steal that late, but i don't see a way that he gets down to the cubs.

Yeah, given our history of drafting outfielders, I'd rather have one with good strike-zone discipline.

AJ Pollock makes another appearance for the Cubs in Jim Callis' & John Manuel's latest mock.

31. CUBS (Jim). The Cubs would have plenty of nice values to choose from if the draft unfolds like this. They're on Pollock, Jackson and Kansas high school righthander Garrett Gould, and they'd have to consider California prepster Jiovanni Mier, the best shortstop in the draft if you think that Green may have to move off the position. Chicago's greatest need is in center field and they love Notre Dame, so A.J. Pollock is the choice.

I like Kyrell Hudson as a 5th to 10th round pick he is the fastest player in the draft (Keith Law), but his problem is hitting but they say he has a nice level swing and only needs to learn how to time the pitches better. Mlb.com says that he has the same body type as curtis granderson and i think that is his upside. He also has a football and baseball scholarship to Oregon State.
