I'm sure I'll probably get hammered for even suggesting this and it's probably already been discussed here, but would you be interested in seeing what the Reds would take for Griffey right now? He's got his 600, so I assume they will deal him before too long. What would you trade for him? Even if he's not an everyday player, he'd potentially add a nice left handed power stick to the lineup for the stretch run.

OK, bash away.

Griffey is basically done. He wouldn't be worth giving up anything to do what Jim Edmonds already does (past his prime centerfielder who can still maybe contribute here or there), and at least we're paying Edmonds only the minimum.

I can't see any justification for trading for Griffey.

Griffey doesn't make any sense at this point. Edmonds might have more left in the tank than Griffey does.

Griffey's OBPing .365 and OPSing around .780, while Edmonds is OBPing around .284 with an OPS under .600. Griffey's defense is worse than Edmonds though, but I don't think it's so much worse to make up 80 points of OBP.

Edmonds has a .265/.321/.449/.770 line as a Cub.
That's true, Edmonds numbers were supressed by PETCO, while Griffey's in a hitter-friendly park in Cincy. I'd still give him a slight edge, but not enough to make up the difference in defense after considering that. I hate not being able to keep throwing Edmonds under the bus...

Also, Griffey is owed a ton of money from previous years in which he deferred part of his contract.

Even if they trade him, I think Cincy would still be on the hook for that, as that is money due for services already rendered.

i think the slight edge that griffey has in obp is made up for the difference in salary and players we'd have to give up.

Fixed that for ya.

Griffey should be a DH. He has no business putting a mitt on his hand at this point, unless it's to get the cookies out of the oven.

Milton Bradley for RF .

I'd rather see if Bradley can still play CF. However, I believe the way Bradley has played that Texas will hold onto him. He won't be expensive to sign. They don't really have anyone coming thru the system that he would be blocking. I'd say there's very little chance he gets traded at this point, unless a team is trading away a stud pitching prospect and more.

That's why I said I'd only do it if it was Edmonds for Griffey straight up, with them making up the salary difference. No way Cincy would do that, someone will offer them something worthwhile for him.
