Coco's whole "I don't think he really wanted to punch me" tough guy act after the game was hilarious. Is that why he threw a big, loopy overhand right? I don't think even I would be afraid to punch Coco Crisp, he's like 5'9

Thoughts.

If a guy is running at you full speed, you don't throw a punch, you tackle him.

Johnny Gomes is awesome, but all he was doing was punching his own teammates.

It was awesome seeing Iwamura trying to land a punch.

I loved watching that Rays bullpen guy messing with his sandal during the fracas.

The dugout shot of the Rays was great. You catch the whole dugout emptying onto the field, and a team doctor running for his life.

What were Manny and Youklis arguing about?

Supposedly Youk was pissed off that Manny didn't show more effort during the brawl, or something to that effect. My theory is that Youk informed Manny that he'd flushed all of his weed down the toilet.

I love the new Rays...

"I protected my own players and that's what we need to do around here," Shields said. "We've been getting stomped around the last 10 years and it isn't going to happen anymore. I had to let them know early and let them know right away."

"It all happened because Manny complained about Youkilis' habit of throwing bats, helmets and other objects in the dugout when he has a bad at-bat, something that has become a constant practice," the source said.

"Other players have told Youkilis in the past about the situation, which makes him look selfish and that he is more worried about each at-bat than about the team. If Boston is winning easily, there's no reason to throw objects all over the dugout because of a bad at-bat.

"There was a meeting where the team let Youkilis know that many of his teammates were tired of his explosive reactions for each bad plate appearance. It became very bothersome … more so when the team is winning and it's in first place. There's not much room for individualistic attitudes."

Suspensions have been announced.

Red Sox: Coco Crisp, 7 games; Jon Lester, 5 games; Sean Casey, 3 games.

Rays: James Shields, 6 games; Jonny Gomes and Edwin Jackson, 5 games; Carl Crawford, 4 games; Akinori Iwamura, 3 games.

The suspensions were staggered to avoid the teams being too short-handed. So far only Crisp has appealed. Lester will not appeal and will begin serving his today. Shields and Gomes will start serving theirs today unless they appeal.

Is that a record length for fight related suspensions? Obviously, drug related suspensions ar much longer, but I cant remember anyone getting a 6 or 7 game suspension. How long was Lees for the Chris Young slap fight? 3 games, right?

Hopefully The Rays will appeal and hold the suspensions until we play them.

Edited: we will at least miss Iwamura in the Rays series. Sure, hes not Carl Crawford, but hes the type of scrapper that hurts us big time.

Unless appealed, the suspensions will be scheduled to begin on the following days:

-Friday: Crisp and Lester; Shields and Gomes

-Wednesday: Crawford

- June 13: Jackson

- June 14: Casey

-June 17: Akinori Iwamura

Who knows, maybe Shields, Gomes, and Crawford will appeal and we'll miss at least one of them.

Best part of it all is the ump (you see it best at about 4:14) begin to warn the benches. Nope not gonna work this time.

And I don't see what was bad about the slide. Coco didn't do anything to the second baseman that I see. He had put his kneee down and blocked the bad and Coco used his hand to get to the base.

It linked to the wrong video. Click on the link again and find the video that says "Crisp exchange words with Maddon" that is 2:48 long. It's the second slide in the video.

Wow. What Crisp did was bull. That slide was ridiculous with intent to injure Iwamura. IMO the ump should have thrown him out. Especially after the way he stalked off proving his intention. Then the yelling F you twice at someone else. Those add up to an automatic ejection in my book. If I was on the Rays I would thrown at his head and done it again the next time he comes up. Simply put what he did was bush league and no one (the league, or other team, or his team) should put up with it.

I can't think of a single thing that's happened on the field in the last 25 years that would warrant throwing 1, let alone 2, fastballs at a guy's melon. The slide was bush-league and Shields was right to drill him in the hip, but to suggest he should aim for his head is crazy.

Once you try to hurt one of my teammates you become fair game. In most sports its that way. You try to hurt my teammate I'm going to hurt you. You see it in football, hockey, basketball, soccer .. etc. In baseball its you try to hurt my teammate I'll give you a little bruise.

You can give someone a little bruise (and a lot more) without aiming at someone's head. When you go for the head you risk killing them, or hurting them so badly that they can never play again (Juan Encarnacion). No, aiming for the head is never justified, period.

and neither is kicking your legs up at a guys knees while sliding because he made a good defensive play your last time up. If I was on the Red Sox I would tell Crisp to stop being a j-hole. The way he struted and everything he did does nothing to help the team.

You're talking about potentially ending a guy's career, if not killing someone. You're either really dense or just trying to sound like tough guy.

I wasn't in any way trying to defend what Crisp did. But that doesn't change the fact that aiming for somebody's head is 100% inexcusable and unforgiveable under any circumstances.
