What the hell is wrong with Lee? Did I see that his OBP is down around .330?

Not only is he not walking at his old pace, he's not walking at a league average pace.

I hope it's just a slump, but there haven't been any signs of him popping out of it. He's not even making a lot of solid contact.

That's what makes it seem worse than it is, he usually will try to drive the ball to right field. He hasn't even done that in the last three games.

The problem now is, with Hoff and Ward not around, theres no logical way to rest him without adding an automatic out to the lineup with Cedeno or Fontenot. The 13 pitcher move has ended up completely fruitless.

Eh, can't win 'em all. Just win the series. With the Brewers and Cards losing, this isn't the end of the world tonight.

In the long run, the continued short starts and Lee and Soto mired in awfulness is going to seriously handcuff this team down the stretch.

Have any of Koroda's strikeouts been on pitches actually in the zone?

He has 7 strikeouts, and I only remember 4 or 5 of them, and they were all out the zone.

He's been swinging at a lot of junk lately too. He's looked a lot like Soriano at the plate.

But it's pretty much necessary. Any of the starters not named Zambrano are lucky to get through 5 innings. The Cubs have a few big problems all coming to a head at the same time.

It wouldn't be necessary if Piniella was using the bullpen properly. 12 *is* an extra reliever.

Your sig is obnoxious, annoying, and cheesy. Just sayin

Better?

Yeah, because now I don't have to see the same picture 17 times on each page of a game thread.

I was surprised to find that 12 isn't an extra reliever anymore. I think every team in the National League has 12 pitchers right now, and a couple have 13.

I do agree that 13 is too many on a normal basis though. It should be used on a very sparse basis, and when it is used the pitchers that come up need to actually eat some innings and rest the bullpen, and then they can be sent right back down.

I remember when Hart was good.

When was he good?

That one inning last year when he bailed I believe it was Kerry Wood out of a bases loaded 0 out jam.

Remember that one time Neifi hit a game winning grand slam in extras against the Cards? I do.
