A few pitches later, Cubs shortstop Alex Gonzalez botched a grounder that should have been an inning-ending double play.

Mark today down as the day ESPN got something right.

it seems to be the reporters fault to me. Alou said he would have been joking if he said it. The reporter should make sure the quote he has is really meant they way he thinks it was meant. This is why you do follow up questions and have more than just one quote on the subject.

Has anyone heard the joke about Moises Alou, R Kelly, and the underage hooker checking into a hotel room?

He could refuse to answer questions on the topic.

or you could just ignore his response to the whole bartman matter, like everyone else in the world

I didn't go out of my way to find his current opinions on the play. It was on the front page of ESPN.com. Do you think it would have been there had he not answered the reporter's question?

It could have been an inning-ending double play. Probably wouldn't have been one since Gonzalez had to go to his right to field the ball and it would have taken a very, very quick turn to get the runner at first.

There's no way he could have turned two on that ball.

That is absolutely false. He didn't have to move that far right as I remember and furthermore, it was the catcher (Pudge) on first and a guy who has never been that quick (Miguel Cabrera) at the plate. We were competent enough to turn a double play on those two guys.

Apparently we weren't...
