I freaking named my cat after Murton. He better not be going anywhere. Then I have to kill my cat.

I have a ball with both Marshall's and Murton's autograph on it. I'd like at least one of them to have success.

i have a ball somewhere at my parents with shawn estes and joe borowski's autographs on it. ill sell it for $2000 OBO

I can top that. I have one with Dave Veres and Antonio Alfonseca.

Hector Villanueva

Jerome Williams, Corey Patterson, Mark Prior, Bobby Hill, Michael Barrett, GlenAllen Hill.

If you're offering to trade, no. If you throw in a Luis Salazar, I'll consider it.

Murton's offensive skills don't match his position. He'd be in the big leagues if played MIF or CF and better defense, or if the Cubs had unusual power from a non-power spot and could live with Murton's lack of power in LF/RF. But with no speed, minimal power, and average defense at best, you have to bring more than just an OBP to the table for a "win now" team.

I recall all the arguments against paying Fukudome when you could get Fukudome-light with Murton on the cheap, but I still just don't see it.

Murton is absolutely Fukudome light. But that's where you pay the premium to upgrade from above average to good, or good to great.

I have a neon pink cubs hat from a giveaway day, signed by Billy Williams, Chuck Crim, Dave Otto, Heathcliff Slocumb, and some other guy that's faded too much and not worth remembering.

He needs to be traded and he should have been traded before last season if Lou was just going to use Floyd so much anyway.

I thought a late season trade last year was the right idea -- Murton could probably have brought back a A or AA pitcher who might make the difference in a deadline deal this year for the Cubs. Unfortunately his 18 at-bats in June and July didn't help make that case -- but August and Sep sure did.

I suppose he is injury protection for Soriano (but I'm not sure Piniella or Hendry see it that way) which isn't bad, but his value just keeps diminishing.

Cubs fans have more observations, and certainly bias, but if another team were able to offer a package that was a mirror image of Murton, Cedeno, Hill, Pie -- as a contending team, what should the Cubs be willing to give up? DeRosa , Wuertz and Gallagher? Marshall, Hart, Donaldson, Vitters?

They are letting value in terms of 2008 benefits to the Cubs or in the trade market diminish quickly.

Was he signed at his trailer down by the river?

Fergie Jenkins signed my glove when I was in little league. I just thought he was one of the coaches and didn't know he was a hall of famer, so I kept wearing the glove to play. Live and learn.
