Wasn't he the one that was calling strikes a foot and a half off the outside corner in the 1997 NLCS?

 

I want to say he was one of the guys who caused MLB to implement QuesTec.

Would we know who was responsible for it? The very last thing MLB wants to do is say "we know that umpires X, Y, and Z are incompetent, but we can't fire them because they're unionized, so we have to live with them being much worse at their jobs than most of you who have been fired were at yours

He tendered his resignation during some umpire's union power play, MLB accepted it, he sued to get his job back, failed, then died.

Yes, did anyone else see the irony in the Braves bitching about pitchers getting too much off the corner?

 

They never got that much, though. Gregg was literally calling them 18 inches off the corner.

Reminds me of the time in third grade our worst hitter hit our best hitter in the middle of the back with a practice swing.
