I was thinking about the tremendous effect that the Japanese fans had in voting Ichiro in a couple of years ago, so I was wondering what y'all thought about what might happen this year to Fukudome. I certainly think he's worthy of being selected, and I have doing my part that he and the rest of the Cubs are in the starting line-up. So...vote and vote often.

We wouldn't need any Cubs fans to vote for Fukudome, the Japanese fans would get him in on his own. So Taguchi was the #4 or 5 vote getter for outfield in 2003 (+/- a year)

at this point, 6 or 7 Cubs deserve it more than Kosuke, which is saying a lot

I'm skeptical.

He's third on the team in WARP1 behind Zambrano and Soto. You can make a good case for Marmol when you factor in leverage.

But after that? Lee's just fourth among NL first basemen in OPS. Theriot is seventh among NL SS's (yes, that underrates his OBP, but it also excludes his outs on the basepaths, so I'm calling that a wash :) ). Dempster, maybe?

I'd say there are three Cubs who are clear All-Stars at their positions right now: Zambrano, Marmol, Soto. After that, Fukudome's in a large group of Cubs who are on the fringes.

But the question is, will they? While the Cubs may be the best all around team, how many Cubs players are actually the top in their position? Looking at the seson some other guys are haing, Kozuke and Soto may be the the only Cub posiion players who may deserve to start on the all star team.

Berkman over Lee

Chipper Jones over Ramirez

Burrell over Soriano

But on the flip side of the coin, we have Theriot over Hanley and DeRosa over Utley for rilz

Im asuming you're being sarcastic, but I was mentioning Cubs players who would get consideration for the AS team. Theriot and DRo have been doing there thing, but there are too many in front of them.

Geovany Soto could beat the AL all-stars by himself.

Thus, the game should just be cancelled so as not to embarrass the AL.

Voting began only recently, and the first report of voting trends won't even come until next week. But there are two ways to project the eventual lineups -- based on true merit, or based on how fans are likely to vote -- and either way adds up to an acute NL edge.

If we go by the numbers, NL vs. AL:

1B: Lance Berkman, Astros - Kevin Youkilis, Red Sox

2B Chase Utley, Phillies - Jose Lopez, Mariners

SS: Miguel Tejada, Astros - Derek Jeter, Yankees

3B: Chipper Jones, Braves - Joe Crede, White Sox

C: Brian McCann, Braves - A.J. Pierzynski, White Sox

OF: Nate McLouth, Pirates - Josh Hamilton, Rangers

OF: Pat Burrell, Phillies - Manny Ramirez, Red Sox

OF: Xavier Nady, Pirates - Magglio Ordonez, Tigers

If we instead go by reality (factoring in popularity, voting fan-base, etc.):

1B: Albert Pujols, Cards - Youkilis

2B: Utley - Dustin Pedroia, Red Sox

SS: Jose Reyes, Mets - Jeter

3B: David Wright, Mets - Alex Rodriguez, Yankees

C: Russell Martin, Dodgers - Jorge Posada, Yankees

OF: Carlos Beltran, Mets - Vladimir Guerrero, Angels

OF: Burrell - Ichiro Suzuki, Mariners

OF: Kosuke Fukudome, Cubs - Bobby Abreu, Yankees

(a) when did pat burrell become wildly popular such that he'll be elected to the all star team

(b) geovany soto???

Was he trying to see how he could fill a lineup using as few NL teams as possible?

Soto and Furcal both belong on there.

Bill Swerski: So Pat, what do you think the score would be in this matchup: Geovany Soto against the American League All-Star team?

Pat Arnold: I don't know Bill. Would Geovany Soto be playing all 9 positions by himself, or would this be like 9 Geovany Sotos playing the AL?

Bill: It would be one Geovany Soto by himself.

Pat: In that case, that's a close match. I would have to guess Geovany Soto 12, AL All Stars 9.

Bill: Your turn Todd. What if it was a team of 9 Geovany Sotos against the AL All Stars?

Todd O'Connor: Are these full size Geovany Sotos or miniature ones? I mean, a team full of full size Geovany Sotos is just not fair.

Bill: Assume the team is made up of 9 three-foot tall Geovany Sotos.

Todd: Is he managing the team too?

Bill: Yes.

Todd: Then in that case, I'd say mini-Geos 127, AL All stars 2.

They need to revive the Superfans.

Yes, sarcasm. And I also agree with your points that were made
