Why pitch to the #8 hitter with a man on 2nd and 2 out? Walk him, get the pitcher and worry about next inning when you get there. The pitcher might knock one in once in every 25-30 ABs or so, but I would walk the #8 hitter every time.

 

In most cases, yes, but Z is one of the few pitchers who isn't an automatic out.

 

 

I was too slow with my post. I was talking about the Cubs pitching to Bixler with Duke on deck.

On an unrelated note, I heard something rather intesting the other day when I was watching the Sox play the Angels (yes I know...why am I watching the Sox? Nothing else was on at the time.)

 

Anyways, Hawk started talking about hitting situations and said when a batter is up 3-0 in the count and he swings at the next pitch, regardless of where it is, that the batter will walk more often that taking 3-0.
