then we might possibly have another notch in the win column and win the division by 9 games instead of 8 or whatever

2 instead of 1, but whose counting?

i guess i should be concerned

your evaluations and predictions are always so spot on

Kosuke is batting .500, Soriano is batting .048

wow

Thats only because Kosuke is a good baseball player where as Soriano is not.

WoW, I went and took a nap after the Zambrano melt down, I figured that was game. I had no idea that we'd come back to head into the 9th with the lead only to have Marmol blow the save. Im glad I didnt stick around. On the upside, the bulpen looks to have pitched really well after Z other than Marmol. Was the HR he gave up pretty much crushed or wind blown? Thats bizaro when you cant put the game away with Marmol pitching the 9th...

The game was tied going into the ninth, so it wasn't a save situation.

not a blown save, and wind wasn't helping today... if anything he hit it through the wind a bit. marmol left a fastball up and somehow mclouth was sitting fastball, even though marmol had been throwing sliders since he'd come into the game.

I know, right. I was the only person around here unmercifully bashing Soriano at the time that post was made. If I wanted to dig around old game threads for such things, Im sure I can find 1 or 2 worse Soriano posts.

In addition, it's very strange that you thought a 1-run game with the Cubs having 5 ABs left was over.

The Cubs went down 5-4 in the top of the 5th and you left because you figured the game was over? You had no idea that they would come back from an 1 run deficit? You must not make it through many games if the Cubs being down by 1 run is enough for you to quit watching.

yeah but with the top offense in baseball, how can the cubs possibly come back with only five innings left to score?

btw, free baseball in st louis. and big papi with a 3 run bomb to put the red sox up by 4 early against the brew crew.

Ludwick hits a game-winning homer for the Cards. It's his 10th homer of the season.

I guess the Pirates were due for a win against the Cubs, but dang.........

I hate losing, but I hate losing with Z on the mound, and now we have to hope that Marquis is non-crappy enough for the Cubs not to lose the series to the Pirates. I don't want to end the homestand/begin the road trip on a sour note, so I hope Piniella has Marquis on a short leash.

The scary thing is Wuertz will be unavilable, Marmol and Lieber uncertain, so the first lines of defense from the pen will be Fox and Howry. Did Neal Cotts hit on Lous daughter or something?

No, he just blows.

Uh, his numbers at Iowa say otherwise.

i don't trust cotts to throw enough strikes to be effective.

I'd rather have him than Fox and Eyre.

Regardless, it's pretty ignorant to say that "he just blows" without looking at what he has done at AAA to start the year.

A 1.20 WHIP in AAA isn't that impressive.

With Zambrano pitching the way he did, the game had that feel of a loss about it. I dont have alot of confidence in our middle relief. *shrug* Ive seen our offense come back from worse but, I envisioned the Pirates scoring more runs. Plus works got me exhausted and stressed out so I figured it was as good a time for a nap as any. I had hoped to come back to hearing about a Cubs comeback win, I guess it wasnt in the cards. We were bound to lose to these guys eventually. If I had the ability to watch the game Id probably have hung around for the whole thing, but I had only radio today. Wish Dishnetwork had been able to get extrainnings back, but they suck oh well *sigh*

If you are going to lose, I like one-run losses with underperformances from pitches you can normally rely on to drop your homestand to 7-2.

Both losses on the homestand featured favorable pitching matchups and one run losses.

I wouldn't exactly call Marquis vs. Estes favorable, Bob.

Then again, I wouldn't call Marquis vs. my 5-year old nephew favorable.

Just got back from the game .... did Soto look safe or out?

Looked safe to me there, but when I was in the bathroom right after, Pat and Ron were talking on the radio about how when they looked at the replay, it looked like Soto missed or was blocked from the plate.
