Mariotti sheds light on the masses with his interesting and informative take on this situation:

"If Edmonds produces, fickle Cubdom will love him."

INTERESTING With stuff like this being produced, I think it's only a matter of time for newspaper to regain it's status as the #1 source of news for Americans.

Marquis says he's a great teammate and that he'll be good in the clubhouse.

Marquis should shut his stupid 1.72 WHIP face.

Oh yea, I went there.

he will be more liked than Todd Hundley

Yet, to be seen. Remember Todd was liked for at least one series.

I heard Edmonds makes a wicked cup of coffee, it even rivals Niefi's.

This Edmonds/Pie debate makes me think back to the 2004 season. I was a fan of resigning Kenny Lofton, despite Corey Patterson emerging. I think Lofton brought more to the team at the top of the order than Patterson ever could have. Time has proven that it would have been better for the Cubs to go with Lofton in CF in 04, or at least a Lofton/Patterson combo (not necessarily a platoon).

I think the Cubs have a chance at winning this year. I am not so sure why Pie hasn't hit at this level, but I don't think it is because he has been sitting and I do think he eventually will hit.

I have no idea why Pie is the expendible part that has to be sent down. Personally, I think Pie brings more to the team than Darryl Ward does.

He a proven veteran who just knows how to win. Jim is a gamer, he's just a... ball player.

Those are all the cliches I could come up with.

Lofton's line before the cubs traded for him: .277 /.333/437

Edmonds line before the cubs signed him:.178 /.265 /.233

I would have shot the computer if you would have said "he's scrappy"

He's a real dirtbag.

Some of you guys are just a bit too literal when someone mentions a comparison. Not really comparing Edmonds to Lofton, just the situations.

But the situations are very different because Patterson was injured and Lofton was still pretty good. Corey also had 1000+ major league PA compared to the non-chance given to Pie this year before being sent down.

As far as I know, Jim Edmonds has never burned down an orphanage.

Jim Edmonds contains 0 trans fat

Jim Edmonds is tall, he can totally change the channel on the clubhouse TV if they can't find the remote.

Jim Edmonds is younger than Cuse. Of course so is John McCain, The Bill of Rights and Moses.*

Who knows, maybe Edmonds was sulking as a Padre and now that he has a desire to play maybe he will put up a 250/ 350/ 450 line batting 5th.

Look, I am pissed that Pie hasn't been given a fair shake in this whole deal, but I think most of you are completely overreacting to this signing. We haven't been getting much productivity out of CF anyway, so this is a low risk deal with a potentially high reward. Now I don't expect much out of Edmonds, but it is worth a shot at this point.
