Carmen Pignatiello to Iowa's DL with a calf injury.

Peoria's Leon Johnson has been out of the lineup the last few days with back spasms. And Issmael (Francisco) Salas fans, don't fret:

Utilityman Ismaael Salas, who was released by the Smokies on May 7, was hired by the Chicago Cubs as a player-coach and placed on Tennessee's disabled list.

Marco Carrillo has a no-no through 6 for Daytona!

Chuck Caufield Jr. gets a clean single to RF with one out in the 7th to ruin Carrillo's no-no. Marco's final line in his best outing as a pro: 7 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K. Rehabbing Billy Petrick threw a scoreless 8th but gave up another hit.

Daytona's offense has only mustered 3 hits themselves and it's 0-0 in the bottom of the 8th.

BTW, yesterday, AZ Phil said on TCR that Vitters took batting practice at Fitch so at least the injury isn't *that* serious. He also took groundballs at third. Hopefully he'll get in a game soon down there. Angel Guzman also threw 16 pitches, velocity was good and the curve was sharp but 9 of those 16 pitches were balls. He's also probably getting close to throwing in an extended spring training game.

Daytona ended up losing 3-0.

Down in Iowa, Hoffpauir has his second HR of the year. Kevin Hart went 4, giving up a HR, striking out six, and walking 2. Iowa's up 3-1 going into the 6th.

Up to 68 pitches this time for Hart. He's struck out 14 in 10.2 AAA innings, not bad.

I wouldn't mind seeing Jose Ascanio in the Cubs pen over Chad Fox.

Interesting boxscore for Iowa.

Top 4 (Patterson, Fuld, Murton, Hoffpauir)- 6 for 13, 2 BBs, 5 runs, 5 RBIs (all by Hoffpauir).

Bottom 5- 0 for 16 with 6 of the team's 7 strikeouts.

I really think Ascanio is ready to help the bullpen.

19 IP, 2.29 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, 9.60 K/9, 3/1 K/BB, .192 BAA

Against righties he's been even better. 11.2 IP, 8 H, 4 BB, 15 K, 1.20 GO/AO, .186 BAA

Seems like a no brainer. Means that we'll see him as a September callup. At least Wuertz and Howry are starting to throw the ball better.

Good to see Colvin really following up on his breakout offensive performance.

Well, he did give you the walk you wanted :D. Unfortunately, I've noticed a really disturbing trend with Colvin that I hope when I finally break down and review all the game logs becomes just my perception and not reality.

My perception though is that Colvin really is terrible in games he walks in. He either hits or he walks. He doesn't seem to be able to do both in the same game. I believe it was true last year (in the rare times he did walk, but of course he hit a lot more last year) and I'm almost certain it has been true this year.

That is a very interesting perspective, and I would be very interested in hearing what your findings are if you look into it further. I do remember reading somewhere last year that some instructor in the system (don't remember who) said Colvin would never take many walks for a reason very similar to what you describe.

Very preliminary findings. I took a quick look at the game logs for this year. Colvin is 4/26 with 1 2B in games he takes a walk in. Pretty awful, but I'm going to try to at least find the numbers for last year to get a better sample than 26 at-bats.

Yeah, small sample size, but very interesting nonetheless.
