He had nine days off between starts, and according to many, that destroys a pitcher's rhythm. Its not his fault he was bad today, just like its never Rich Hill's fault.

I hope this stirs up the type of argument you want.

Best wishes.

I'm sorry...I'll make sure all my comments from now on follow the party line. My apologies.

If that last one didn't work, this one will probably have to do.

I hope this is the last time we have to see Marquis pitch as a Cub.

it's not going to happen. marquis will finish the season as a starter.

no way they pull Marquis after this. He'll have to continue to suck for another month at the very least, unless someone really wants to trade for him or he gets much worse than he currently is

i wouldn't be surprised if he finished next season as a starter, either.

So that is why bunting is stupid

No, that is why sacrifice bunts that aren't executed well are stupid.

no, bunting with your #2 hitter is stupid. or, having a #2 hitter who you'd rather bunt with in that situation is stupid.

That makes no sense. Bunting with your #2 hitter - essentially trying to put 2 runners in scoring position for your 2 best hitters is stupid knowing full well this game may be called very soon?

http://www.tangotiger.net/RE9902.html

Slightly more runs expected with runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs than runners at 2nd and 3rd with 1 out.

plus that assumes that the bunt is executed properly. there's a much better chance of a failed bunt that results in a double play, pop out or fielder's choice than there is of a throw into the stands or theriot beating the ball to first. so actually the decision to bunt is going to cost you even more than that very small amount.

It's not that hard people. The only positive from a sac bunt when everyone knows a sac bunt is coming and the defense doesn't botch it is moving runners over and getting an out. There are several positives if you actually try to get a hit, which is what hitters are used to doing in every single AB.

And many positives come from a PROPERLY executed sacrifice bunt. A fly ball ties the game and a bloop single wins it. Considering the weather and circumstances, it was a good decision but poor execution.

Last chance boys

It is NOT the last chance, folks! There will be a delay...but this game will NOT be called!

Thanks, I was wondering if they abolished the rain delay or something from some of the reactions on here.

Yeah, his numbers look a lot like Steve Trachsel's, and we traded for him last year. [shudder]

Was Marquis walking every other guy before he got 9 days off?

They are totally stalling. What a joke.

Did he really need to talk to him for 20 seconds before calling to the pen. What a joke Bud Black is.

"and hopefully rain this game out"

What!?!?!?!?!

If it was stopped right now, then I think the Cubs would be able to get a continuation right? We haven't batted fully yet.

As long as the Cubs are batting, I think the half inning needs to be finished.

This is where the Cubs come back.

Marquis pitched a lot worse than the score of tonight's game. He's damn lucky the Padres cannot hit. He was missing in the zone all night. Blech!.

doesn't matter. That only matters if the Pads would have taken the lead in the top of this inning - which they didn't, so the game is official.
