How long until he's removed from closer duties? I can't imagine that they can keep losing like that much longer.

he's been one of the better and more consistent closers in baseball the last few years... i'd think he's earned the right to work out of this funk. he's 35 years old though; it's possible this is the beginning of a sharp decline.

I'm guessing it's the start of his decline. His stuff isn't what it used to be.

Honestly, I'm waiting for the Cardinals to fall off a cliff. I just don't think they're going to keep playing up to this level.

The funny thing is, the Cardinals have noone to even think about filling the closer role. I guess you could put Franklin there but hes no sure thing.

When you look at that staff as a whole, you wonder how in the hell they are in fist place.

LaRussa isn't the type to throw a closer in there w/out ML experience, despite having the stuff and moxie to close, his struggles with command and control would likely equate to him being in a role like McClellan and work his way into that role. If they do something, Franklin would like close, McClellan bumps to set-up, Perez would be the 7th inning guy, Villone sticks as the Loogy.

Exactly and they would basically be in the same boat they are in right now.

he was surprisingly candid about the situation

I’m just getting sick of embarrassing myself and letting my team down ... We should be five more wins in the win column in my mind, so we should be ahead in first place even more. But they can’t keep sending me out there when I’m pitching the way I’m pitching ... We’re going to have to figure out some kind of remedy. I’m sure that remedy will give me some time off and get somebody in there that can do a better job right now.

Wow. My respect for Izzy just went up tenfold.

Just read on the bottom line on ESPN that Izzy has been removed from the closer role. Franklin and Springer will likely share closer duties.
