He's more concerned with who he's going to give the Soto award to next month. That Justin Upton is looking like a good candidate.

i don't think he's ready for the big leagues. probably should be in iowa to add polish to his game.

amazing what can happen when you hand a rookie the starting job out of spring training and actually leave him there

Well, Soto's been destroying the ball ever since he came up, it's not like there was really any choice.

yeah if you are a cub prospect, you'd better produce in your first two weeks or you're screwed.

Longer than that. Look at Cedeno's and Murtons first partial seasons and where that got them the next year. Granted, Cedeno didn't deserve to keep the job with how he played in '06, but Murton never was given a fair shake despite that outstanding start.

Edit: But then again, neither Murton or Cedeno are Geovany Soto.

The award shouldn't be called the "Rookie of the Month", I petition the MLB to rename the award to "Geovany Soto of the Month" award.

In that case they can only give it to Geovany Soto as no one else is worthy of the name.

I see no problem with this.

But, that is going to happen anyways

No, future rookies have to be of the quality of Geovany Soto in order to win the award.

What happens next year then? Geo can't win the Soto award anymore because he won't be a rookie. Only once every 10-20 years does a Soto-quality rookie come along (if that often, we had ARod come up in the 90s). Do we not award it? I think next year we return to the original title of Rookie of the Month, and change the MLB player of the month to the Soto award instead. Because, let's face it, veterans as well as rookies should also be aspiring to be more good like Geovany Soto.
